Vendor Discussion & Reviews / Re: www.carbonbikekits.com
« on: January 26, 2016, 09:11:56 PM »
@maui I see your point about not saying things about a computer that you're not sure about but you did point out the price discrepancy showing a competitor was cheaper, so it seems fair for Peter to explain what possible reasons may be behind the price difference. It's good info to know that they do indeed come from same factory but at two different grade levels.

@Peter are all frames sold in a grade and b grades? Is the only difference between the two the quality of carbon fiber that was used? I, and I'm sure lots of other forum members, would be interested in this info.

Still curious how different it will ride from my 4 year old LTK023 frame.

I'll be curious to hear your thoughts on that, will be a good comparison

Another thing about the 057 is that it's one of the best values for the $$$. Costs less than some of the other frames. Only thing about the 057 is that some of the newer frames are a bit lighter.

That's odd, thanks for the heads up. I actually thought carbonality was one of the better names/websites. Maybe the new one will be even better.

Have you considered the 041 or 062? I'd probably go with either of those over the 256. Cmh has made a new, and pretty informative comparison thread in case you haven't seen it: http://chinertown.com/index.php/topic,833.0.html

Did you give consideration to the 062?

I agree that the article attempts to scare too much, and ends up somewhat discrediting itself by doing so.

The copy frames that attempt to convince consumers they are purchasing an actual legit S-works frame.. I don't agree with that at all.. But having an unbranded chiner frame that shares almost identical frame geometry as an s-works.. Well, how to judge what is copyright infringement? I actually have no clue technically, but it seems a lot like Apple and it's attempts to copyright everything they possibly can concerning the iPhone.  They even wanted to copyright the shape of their phone (rounded corners, rectangular, mostly screen surface) but they didn't win bc that shape is the standard. Same with bikes, there are only a certain number of aways to arrange two triangles in a frame, and while it may be obvious to us where the "inspiration" came from, it's still following the standard double triangle frame configuration.. At what point would it be "okay"? If they had an unbranded frame that's almost identical to a name brand frame but then changed the head tube angle from 71 degrees to 70 degrees.. Is that then enough to avoid it being a copy?

I'm just thinking out loud here as I'm really not sure how it all works.

I did read an article about how specialized has a dedicated team, trawling though Alibaba and Dhgate etc, and getting counterfeit listings removed. I won't list it here, as there was a lot of BS about all chinese frames being inferior.

Sounds interesting. You should just list it, this isn't a forum that attempts to control the message.. Everything I've read from the mods stressed open information as being the main priority.

And yeah sorry to op for helping derail the thread, maybe mods might want to break it off into a new thread or something

My worry with this company is, they've only been on AliExpress for a year, and most of there frames seem to be knock offs. I imagine that they stay up for a while, until Specialized get them taken down for counterfeiting, then they change their name to something else, and come back up on AliExpress.

I guess this doesn't mean that there'd be an issue with their frames, but they might be a bit hard to track down if you do have a problem.

Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think Specilized can do jack about Chinese companies selling knock-offs

That's a good point slowshifter, I bet you could build up a 26er for a good price. I always see tons of nice wheelsets and forks at a deep discount online

Well that sucks man! You're right, this frame is shaping to be one of the to top 3 chiner frames. Is workswell the only place to get it?

You should show them this thread.. point out how many views it has (almost 15 thousand).. show them how much positive exposure they and their products are getting.. but that could easily turn into negative exposure..

I am not an expert on carbon fibre bike frames. It can be just the image quallity too. However, this is not how I remember broken composite materials to look like (simple fiberglass, kevlar and kevlar/carbon mix of racing kayaks' shells). Without trying to stir any shit, does it not look like there is too much of resin and very little of fibre in that broken seat stay? Or am I completely wrong?

Hmm, not sure. Hard for me to see. Is that a known cost cutting tactic in the carbon industry?
