Interesting hubs - 90t ratchets similar to the new DT 240 DEG hubs but a shell design that looks more like Hope. https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256807613354245.html

Component Deals & Selection / 2024 11.11 / Black Friday sale planning
« on: October 30, 2024, 10:02:30 PM »
As most of you know, the 11.11 sale is one of the biggest of the year. Vendors also have a history of increasing prices in advance - just like US retailers for Black Friday. What is in your cart waiting on the sale?

I have a set of NGEbut hubs (i9 hydra clones) that show as $158 today with a price drop to $136 on Nov 1st. https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806584091583.html Now to see if it drops even more.

This tool might work for the torque bolt caps - https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806536408670.html

Frame located near Raleigh, NC. Includes entire frame and original triangle along with the new improved triangle. Includes JJJ mod for original triangle. Shipping available.

This frame was built up as a backup bike and has only seen a few miles around the neighborhood. Pictures show how it looks when fully assembled. The black topographic lines are part of a WilderWild frame protection kit.

Haideli/Tideace FS831 full suspension frame with Fox Float DPX2 shock (210x55) which provides 150mm of travel.
This sale is for the Frame, shock, spare rear triangle, bottom bracket, and SLX crankset. The BB92 bottom bracket is a thread together unit with Enduro bearings.

Haideli is one of the main frame OEM manufacturers and Tideace is their house brand. This L frame has 493 reach and 637 stack. The dimensions closely align with a Santa Cruz Hightower.

I bought these cranks a few weeks ago and will be installing them soon. Does anyone know what tool is meant to fit the dust caps / self-extracting caps? I contacted the seller on AliExpress and they were unhelpful.

A standard hex wrench - I think it was 8mm, is what is needed to install the arms. If you want to remove the self-extracting caps a set of needle-nose pliers can remove them. Just put the tip of pliers and hold the handles open to wedge the tips in the caps. A slight turn will loosen the caps without a huge amount of pressure. The caps are left hand threaded - so Righty Loosey. I have removed and reinstalled the cap on one arm and had no issues with damaging the finish.

The issues with the Haideli/Tideace AM831 frame seem largely sorted after the upgraded rear triangle was released. The company's refusal to even provide discounted replacements to the purchasers of the first frames left many people with a "wait and see" attitude for future frames that the company releases. No one wants to be a guinea pig and pay for the privilege.

Having said all of that, I have one and am in general happy with the frame. If buying again I would watch for the big coupon sales on AliX and use that to buy.

The four drawbacks:

-press in BB (can use a thread together press-in)
-no UDH
-some 2.4 tires don't fit on rear, sizes smaller than L may have fork knobs hitting the down tube if not using an extended crown race
-coil shock unlikely to fit

Component Deals & Selection / Re: Hydraulic brake line options

As long as it's oil tight, why would you need kevlar in these things? Compressionless housing for cable actuated brakes, that makes a lot of sense, but hydraulic doesnt benefit from that, does it?

I have some other housing Risk or Muqzi branded that looks like just a few layers with a stiff outer plastic tube for the strength. Sponginess is notable, especially on rear brake. Shimano and other name brand tubes tend to have some sort of better woven layer and more flexible outside coating.

Any feedback on the multi-layer hydraulic brake line? EZMTB has kevlar wrapped with either a plastic exterior or braided stainless one. https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805662322492.html

Does anyone know if the Carbonda FM1001 and the Ican P13 have any differences - i.e. quality of bearings/layup of fiber? They seem to be the same mold from Flybike. From recent quotes the Ican frame + shipping is $120 cheaper than Carbonda.

Saw this today and I'm super tempted... any experience?

In general - Rockbros stuff has been solid, at least anything released in the last couple of years. One of the pictures in the description says the power meter is only included for pictures.  If you want carbon and Dub cranks SRAM FORCE regularly show up under $200 on ebay.

The Evosids are 585g for the 170mm (only size) and the 5Devs are 610g for the 165mm. Both without chainring.

A few others for comparison:
Rotor Kapic alloy crankset - 545g - with chainring.
Descendant Carbon Crankset - 555g - with chainring

Depending on coupons or sale these are $62-72 for a set. I asked if they were painted or anodized and they said anno. Only a few reviews so far.

Also, has anyone tried the new Evosid cranks (5Dev clones)? They look incredible, both the silver and the black with splatter paint, however I'm not 100% confident that they will be strong enough considering they've copied a Titanium crank design and made them out of 6061 aluminum.

The original 5Devs are aluminum. For $63 it is tempting to get a set to try out.
