The heavier tires will certainly help not getting this thing too light.
If anything I may switch out the stem for something pretty short like a 40mm.
This just gets him on it for now but as he continues we’ll reevaluate.
Good input, thanks.

Its for my 13 old. he rides bmx and am trying to get him started on mtb.
This was a build with some left over tires from the other bikes. Once he goes through these and feels comfortable I"ll give him some other choices. He'll prefer grip over a lighter set at this point. Maybe some Rekons next.
For Texas Hill Country trails, these Maxxis are actually perfect. Too bad theyre so heavy. A plush bike to get started is what i'm after right now so these will be just fine till he gets acquainted. All depends on how he rides it. I expect him dropping the seat and hitting the pump track or some short track for fun.
With all the parts we have here i could have built this a few different ways. Stay tuned when I unlazy and throw a Rockshox dropper on there. I want this tossable and thrashable.

    This is my 3rd TanTan carbon frame I've built up. A 699, a 299, and this fm699
Put this little guy together relatively easily with some spare parts from the stash for my 13 yo

TanTan frames have been relatively easy and pleasure to build. I admittedly have not tried other brands but i'm not one to have high tolerance for surprises during builds..hence the good words.

    anyway here at 24.09#'s
heavy tires thats for sure with a full squeeze of juice in there tho

    • fm 699 small frame non boost
    • Shimano XT 8000 group, derailleur, shifter, brakes, xt 10-46 cassette 11-sp,
    • Sram x1 crankset 170mm, 32t, xt chain
    • wheels manufacturing threaded bb92
    • Reynolds carbon/ i9 torch 28h 28i, tubeless
    • maxxis minion dhf/r 29x2.3
    • thomson post
    • bontrager carbon rxl evoke seat, rxl 80mm stem and rxl 700 handlebars
    • Fox 32 100mm factory

    Pulled an all nighter.

    But today shes working great.
Still working out some kinks with the shifting but it's getting better with every small adjustment

    Done.
Crappy pics but it's not like youve never seena bike before.
Pretty impresssed with the frame so far. Couldnt of been happier with the install process. Now let's get it dialed in.

Stuffed in some foam that we had lying around from packaging. Gave it a quick shake and nothing..no rattle so I'll leave it as is for now.
Went ahead and pressed in the bb92 gxp. Was tuff at first but then the tool pulled through. Used some loctite 609 on there so hoping for zero squeakyness.
So far this frame has been great to work with.

    Like a glove.

    Test fit

    Plenty of clearance

Usually there is no hard guides for the cables. They float inside.

You may want to wrap them in a foam tube, to avoid them rattling.
One in the chainstay, one in the downtube.
    Like this: https://r2-bike.com/JAGWIRE-Internal-Housing-Dampener-for-Cable-Housing-10-meter

Just start from the rear, the critical area is in general between the BB and the chainstays.

    For extreme cases, but you shouldn't have to, I use a little thing that came with my Campagnolo brakes;

Put it in the hose and pass a shifter cable in the hole to pull it through the frame.
The shifter cable can be easily guided with a magnet.

As you said..no guides. But..good news is it was pretty easy. Was like playing that old game Operation.
The shifter line will just go from the side of the head set/tube and all the way down to the dropout. Brake line does the same on the other side. Pretty stealth I guess.
Installed a new xt 11 speed cassette and swapped out some rotors while I was in there.

    Bb92 bracket came in.
    Just some quick pics.
Bought the press and some loctite to get this done.

Anyone have any insight to how the internal cables are ran?
The weight of the frame tells me it may be easy to feed them through. We'll see.

Have a few non boost parts I wanted to utilize so I looked at TanTan among others to get sorted.
    http://tantancycling.com/index.php?_m=mod_product&_a=view&p_id=858

I like the geo on it and should fit myself or a fam member well.

From order to door step took about 25 days.
Came packaged well and arrived safely.

The one I originally wanted was the FM199 I believe but now only comes boost. Fm699 it is. Not as light as I wanted but it's my first chiner build so not a big deal. I can cut weight elsewhere if I feel like getting picky.

Took the 17''. As it is for my kid and I hope he will grow a bit, I think It will cost me a shorter stem at first (20€).
We'll see. Not shipped yet... Got to be patient.

How did that build go..any updates?

just an fyi, and not to thread jack.

i recently pulled the trigger on an FM699 from tantan Seraph.
Strange, I had no communication issues and the frame arrived with no issues.
Frame was ordered and arrived in ~25 days due to having to be shipped by sea right now.

chose a 17" frame in matte.

based the choosing of the frame (Serpah) from a https://forums.mtbr.com/29er-bikes/tantan-fm-299b-long-term-review-18-5lb-%243000-xc-trail-build-1100653.html

    few pics, arrived yesterday.
