Nice.  Glad things worked.  But dumb that the BB isn't shimano spec.

Component Deals & Selection / Re: ZRACE RX dub crankset... preload?
« on: December 05, 2022, 01:05:42 PM »
I've got this crankset on 2 bikes, one with BSA68 and one with BB86, both used with ZRACE BB's.  You are correct that there is no preload adjustment.  If I remember right, there's a wave washer to take up the slop, which buys you just a tiny bit of room for error.  I couldn't find info on which size spacers were needed where, so I installed the crank with no spacers and centered the cranks, then measured the gaps.  The gap was a nominal value which matched what was included in the ZRACE BB, and when torqued up with spacers there was no slop, but also no excessive drag.  So it worked out in my case, but I could also see that if there's manufacturing tolerances in the BB shell that there could be issues.

- Thanks for the info.  Yes, this is exactly my concern... Does not seem to be any room for potential error in the BB shell / BB widths.  Hence why every other dub crank in existence has the preload ring ha.

Component Deals & Selection / ZRACE RX dub crankset... preload?

see link for exact crankset with magene p505 PM.

---going to be using this on frame with t47BB...  Have not attempted install yet, but the problem I am foreseeing is with BB preload... every other dub crankset I've ever seen has a way to set / adjust preload.  I see no way of doing this with these cranks other than hope / pray the washers provided are exactly the correct size you might need.

thoughts?

also, have you measured the width of bb?  tried using the BB provided instead of the shimano one?

maybe dumb question, but double checking...  You're trying to set the preload before tightening the crank-arm yes?  pics / vids of the play you're experiencing?

I am using this ZTTO 11-46 cassette on my Gravel bike with mechanical GRX without issues for over 2000km now…
I needed to readjust twice in the beginning to get smooth shifting but now it runs perfect.
So YMMV.

the ones that are just same color throughout, or the ones with the black backing plate... is big difference in construction / quality apparently

What is everyone's recommendation for the best AliX 11sp up to 42T cassette?
see my other post... the 1st gen ones (no back backing plate) seem to be garbage...
the gen 2 from sroad and others (black backing plate) seem to be good.

both sure

pictures of these particular cassettes?

hah can refer to hambini videos on BBs... there's really no advantage to one over the other provided the manufacturer can actually make a round hole within spec... The main "advantage" is easier home user serviceability (one tool for removal / install, no presses etc..).  They are also more likely to get a piece machined aluminium round and threaded properly as opposed to a moulded carbon bb shell area done right.  This is (according to hambini) why most companies have been going back to threaded BB most recently.
-advantages of T47 over BSA --- no.

Component Deals & Selection / Re: SROAD lightweight cassettes

the road cassettes (i.e. up to 34t) are fine and durable. With the gravel/mtb gearing-like cassettes, the small teeth break/bend very easily.

pictures of this?
