Frames always ship with plastic tubes sticking out the cable ports, but they are not use to route naked cables.  The are used to help fish cables and housing through the frame.  You shove a cable through the guide until it sticks out both sides.  Then you remove the disposable tubes and feed the permanent housing through the frame by engulfing the cable as it goes.

Not so far. Alls har worked well and is well fitted.

This frame has a flex pivot, and yet I do not see where the flex is supposed to come from.  This is usually the middle of the seat stay, but all of the says are too thick.

Yes, Wing shared it with me, along with some other helpful info I requested:

I was interested in seeing how well they preserved some of the original geometry with the 120mm option.  They claim the same HTA and STA, and a 35mm BB sounds low for an XC bike, but still reasonable.  However, the fork axle to crown is 520, which is more like a 110mm fork.  Put a 120mm (or even 130mm) fork on there and the BB drop is going to be even less.  The FM1001 BB drop is only 28mm, which is low for even a trail bike, but I have not seen any complaints yet.

On my hardtail, I just replaced a Racing Ralph rear tire with a 2.25" Wicked Will and it was a good upgrade.  No noticeable decrease in speed, and much more traction climbing and cornering.  If I get an FM909 or 936, I want to fit the 2.4" (ETRTO 62-622) version front and rear.  If I instead decide to go with an FM1001, then clearance won't be a concern.

Are official geo measurements for the 936 available with the 120mm rear?

What is the dropper routing like?  It looks like it might be a pain to get past the BB, or does the BB shell have a huge break in the middle?

From drawings 909 has bit more clearance than 936. When I get my 909s I can check it thoroughly.

Did you receive your 909 yet?

Wing has been in touch to ask for more details so let's see if they stand by their customer service.

Report back on what Carbonda decides to do.  They seem to be one of the only reliable Chinese frame manufacturers, and I see several potential purchases in my future.

Wing at Carbonda sent me these dimensions for FM936 and FM909 frames.  They list some dimensions around the tire area for both seatstays and chainstays, but most of the widths are missing, and it is unclear what the clearance is expected to be above the tread.  Wing said the standard is to allow for 6mm of clearance to the tire, which is where their max widths come from.

2.35" = 59.69mm
2.40" = 60.96mm
Diff  =  1.27mm

29er / Max tire width FM936 & FM909

Carbonda lists the max tire width as 2.35" for both the FM936 and FM909...but 2.4" for FM1001.  Tire widths are nominal, and there is a lot of variation in how wide they inflate on rims of differing widths.  For anyone running 2.4s, which tire are you using, what (interior) width rim, and how much clearance do you have to chain and seat stays?

29er / Offset bushings with Carbonda 936 or 909?
« on: December 06, 2022, 05:01:30 PM »
Has anyone used offset bushings with Carbonda 936 or 909 frames?  I just became aware of their existence, and the point seems to be to shift the shock in one direction in order to change the head angle and BB height.
https://www.offsetbushings.com/pages/how-they-work

If the seat stays are pushed back, then you may have that many more mm of travel available before the bridge connecting the stays contacts the seat tube.  This could be one way to safely get >100mm travel out of either frame, but it would involve raising the BB and steepening the head tube.  This is the opposite affect that most users will want when using offset bushings in general.

I've seen DIYCarbon frames for $425 USD: https://www.diycarbonbikes.com/collections/hardtailframes/products/2018-29er-dcb-xc27-carbon-mountain-bike-frame.
Haven't looked at eBay or PB classifieds. Being away so long it gets confusing trying to catch up on the options. The DIY site has the SC Highball clone and they mention" comfort, but the last Highball that I demo'd years ago was anything but comfortable. Maybe the new open mold version is?

I built up the Highball frame earlier this year and the result is a very compliant ride.  However, I can't tell how much of that is due to the frame and how much of that is the seatpost.  I used their lightweight post (I am 160lbs) and it's 1cm from the max line, so this maximizes flex.

Thanks for the tip.  I see that Lexon has a bunch of hardtails that will do 40t.

Trifox SDY20 will also do 40t but is more expensive.

What I really want is a flat bar road bike, so a gravel frame would be ideal except for the short reach and top tube.  I have given up trying to find that and I am looking at MTB frames.  It seems that 38t is the limit, but with a 10t cassette cog, I would need a 40t chainring for the riding I do.

Light-carbon LCM904, though it mentions 36t max, I'm riding it in the winter on the road with a 42t oval ring on an old XTR (non-boost) crank, so it can probably handle 44t round.

Did you have to cheat somehow to make that work? e.g. Install it as 1x where the outer ring should be on a double?
