this is how they work together

Oops didn't see your other post! If that's the case this is huge. Yeah you deserve a beer!  ;D

Now makes me think I should consider 2x + EGR on my gravel bike. I'd be fine with 46-30t + 10-42t. That would cover most my local climbing terrain with ease. Though you'd need to have both ER9 gruppo + EGR RD.

New thoughts: I did try running my GRX 812 RD + Garbaruk cage with a 10-42t and 46-30t chainring. An issue I faced is that I still had to make additional clearance with the 42t cog with the B screw when using the small 30t chainring, affecting high gear/small cog shifting performance. There's a good chance running FD + EGR might not shift well.

Yeah, it was directed at that friend of yours  :)

Yeah I forgot to mention this is the P505-S1103 power meter!  ;D

I actually prefer using this 3 bolt spider just because 3 bolt cranksets are plentiful on AliExpress and the spider allows multiple chainring configurations. Though Shimano chainrings seem to work the best out the box.

Just to confirm though. The EGR battery pack only has 1 cable port. You'd need a 2 cable port battery pack. Also is there any confirmation that the EGR RD will talk to an ER9/X FD if hooked up together?

4
I didn't even think about 2x gravel!  ;D

I have a 10-42t cassette and 46-30t chainring. That combo would give great high and low gear range. I could even try slapping on a 9-46t!

for those interested - the eR9 brake levers work with the eGR rear derailleur and vice versa, the eR9 rear derailleur works with the eGR brake levers

Finally we have confirmation! I might just pick up an EGR RD and run one of my road bikes in 1x with wide range cassette!

I see you are also using a Raceworks carbon crank? Is it this one? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006794337930.html
Can you simply swap the powermeter spider off the Magene/Zrace crankset and onto the Raceworks?

Yes, as long as it’s a 3 bolt crankset. The Zrace crankset is actually not bad. It’s well made, but it has a 29mm spindle axle and I prefer 24mm on bsa threaded frames for the bigger bearings. Also I found using Shimano chainrings the most effortless. I might pick up an Ultegra chainring setup later on for the slight weight reduction. I’m using a spare 105 chainring and it’s about a 50g weight difference.

Finally got my Magene RX power meter installed, which was parted from a ZRace crankset+magene setup. It was cheaper buying it this way versus the stand alone unit.  ;)

The integrated bars are actually really nice and aren’t that heavy clocking in less than 340g. I also wanted something narrower, but 40cm was the most compact.

Yeah when I saw the 34cm bar I jumped on it. Compared to the RXL gravel bars, they’re a bit more shallow and slightly wide. The nice thing is that there’s ample room for cable routing. I’ll report back when I get the frame assembled.

Which gravel bars did you order? Got a link?

I'm planning to run these bars in 34cm/460mm:

I also have these in 42cm/498mm drops:

I have these 40cm/500mm integrated bars, but I might leave them on my other gravel frame:

I'm going to try the first option, since I just got those ($29 USD during 11.11 sale). Though if I need more width I can switch to either the first or third option. I also have some Ritchy Beacon gravel bars if I want to go ultra wide. Lately I've been preferring narrow hoods, with flared drops for how I ride. On sketch terrain and downhill, I always switch to the drops for stability. I only stay on the hoods for cruising and or steady climbing.

My frameset is finally painted and shipped. Hopefully it arrives safely.  ;D

I actually ordered another internal cable carbon fork to accommodate 180mm disc rotors. My options for front 180mm rotors was either use an unsafe adapter combination or pay a premium for Peak Torque's adapter and I'd still have to stack adapters. I know Lewis makes a 180mm adapter, but I can't find any reviews or documentation on that adapter. Plus with the 11.11 sale coupons, I was able to get the fork for fairly cheap.

Anyways, I'm planning to run 1x mechanical using a GRX812 RD+Garbaruk cage, 1x Pass Quest aero chainring, 11 speed ZTTO 9-50t UL cassette and 11 speed hydraulic Ultegra shifters. I was debating upgrading to LTwoo EGR, but my gravel terrain is all remote and mountainous, so going electronic and possibly upgrading to 12 speed doesn't really do anything for me. I have a set of new LTwoo hydraulic brake calipers I'll use.

I'm also going to run a Kocevlo internal cable stem with some 34cm flared gravel drop bars. I also have a pair of Gravelking X1 tires in 700x40c ready to go which I'll mount on a pair of 29er carbon wheels. They're 28h spokes, have a 25mm IW and hookless. I'm still debating which crankset to use. I have 4 cranksets to choose from!

Sub-1300g is the new normal. All the cheap wheelsets are like 1300g and up.

Component Deals & Selection / Re: Riro 24mm axle carbon crankset
« on: November 18, 2024, 06:09:58 PM »
Have this on the way as well, just seeing the discussion around bbs, will a standard 24mm BB work on this?

I've had success using the Ultegra Shimano BBR60 threaded BB and SM-BB72-41B pressfit BB. Though I've had the Riro crankset seize up on a Kactus ceramic threaded BB and ZTTO pressfit threaded BB. So I'm presuming it depends on the bearings/cup width in the BB.

that's really good to know b/c they don't normally list those dimensions in the description. probably a good practice to just message the store to confirm.

I'm starting lean towards 3 bolt direct mount cranksets with 2 pinch bolt non-drive crank arms. They have both chainring/power meter flexibility, while being compatible with different size bottom brackets.

Like for example T47 has several variations with 68mm external cups, 86.5mm internal cups, and 78-79mm internal/external cups for bottom brackets! That's not including variations in 24mm/29mm/30mm spindle diameters. I guess the actual interface is now standardized, but under that standard are a plethora of different sizes.

Component Deals & Selection / Re: Handlebar tape recomendation?

I only use Serfas bar tape in brown marble. It's stretchy, has good cushion, non-residual adhesive, easy to clean with water or alcohol and can be reused and still look new.

I had clicking issues on my current gravel bike and have fully resolved the issues. It can be a combination or an individual set of issues causing problems. I was able to narrow it down to 3 potential problems.

1. Regular thru-axles that require the hex wrench, might not be torqued down enough. I swapped to thru axles with handles. That alone helped stop disc rotor rubbing I had on my front fork when riding out of saddle

2. The freehub might not be properly seated. I would double check if there is any play with the hub to make sure it's not loose. I'm running XD freehubs and that was a problem I was having until I thoroughly checked and secured the freehubs.

3. Certain SRAM style pre-load cranksets might be problematic. I messaged the Mangoes Cycling Store who happen to be one of the main seller for the Riro carbon cranksets. They told me to use that crankset with 68-73mm bottom brackets only. That crankset only has a 105mm length spindle. I believe the EVOSID/Zeroing crankset only has a 109mm spindle length and while some sellers say it's fine for BB86 T47/86.5mm BB shells, it still might have issues.

Anyways, I have a Ceccotti RF25 gravel frame on order (same as the SPCycle G056) and now I'm wondering if I should have went with a threaded 68mm BSA frameset instead! I'm finding T47 just as confusing, if not more so than other formats.
