Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: Best TPU tube brand
« on: April 23, 2025, 09:51:27 PM »
I've been using old Cyclami TPU tubes with the entirely threaded, metal valves. They're about 2 to 2.5 years old and about 2,500 km (I don't ride as much as I should)

I have a stash of RideNow tubes as backup but haven't ever had to replace the originals.

Anyone know of there's a shelf life of these?? I doubt it (hopefully).

AceSprint only charged $8 shipping vs all other stores starting at $50. They did offer the option for EMS but that was $60 USD, after exchange its about $100 AUD, making a single rim cost over $300.
Might as well buy a cheapy wheelset

Placed an order for a single 30mm front rim for $190 AUD shipped including tax. Incredibly cheap compared to all other options. A full wheelset is more cost effective but I didn't really want to splash out any more money on rim brake bikes.

Communication with the Acesprint is great. Whoever runs it has great English and is easy to communicate with.

The only downside is its not mentioned anywhere it will take 2 weeks to manufacture on top of the 2-3 weeks for shipping. This was only mentioned when asking for an update when the wheel hadn't shipped in about 10 days. I was hoping to have a spare wheel for an upcoming tri in case of strong winds.
I initially cancelled the order. With Easter coupons I ended up reordering the wheel saving about $30 from my first order.

I wish their aliexpress store had a more user friendly layout. It's a bit here and there trying to compare different combinations of wheels

Will update when the rim arrives

Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / Nipple quality
« on: April 15, 2025, 02:34:10 AM »
Hi all,

Simple question about nipple quality. Going to be building a wheel soon and was wondering if nipple quality matters? I'm considering getting a bunch of cheap anodised nips, but am also wondering if I just splurge and get Pillars.

The reason for being a tightarse is I'm reusing spokes and nips (I know, I know) though wouldn't mind adding some colour. I'm too soft to ride in the wet so I'm not fussed about corrosion

Any recommendations on sellers for nips (or spokes for that matter)?

I ended up buying a set of the solid Stone wheels after my $3 ZTTO wheel seized up after maybe 800km

Hmmm, seems like a super niche product.   Don’t get why they exist.

How is this niche? Electronic shifting in the tri world is extremely limited and extremely expensive given the clientele (retired dentists probably).
Cervelo makes probably the only "entry level" tri bike with mechanical 105 and bottom barrel wheels, yet that starts at $5,100 AUD.

Just saw on AliExpress these 50mm deep wheels for $473 ( $446 AUD in the upcoming sale)
Seems like a really good price - just a shame I don't have any disc brake bikes

GST added to imports over $1,000 was abolished well over a decade ago. GST applies at all purchases regardless of amount

Hi, are there any plans on developing TT wheels? Specifically a rear disc wheel?

10
I'm on a '14 BMC TM02 with 25mm wide rims using 25c tyres. I had to shave down the rear pads to get the brake caliper to fit!

Given I'll be using this bike a handful of tris a year, I can see myself holding on to it for quite a long time

Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / Anyone heard of Fierce Carbon?
« on: November 24, 2024, 06:21:51 AM »
Hi all,

I have a number of full disc wheels in my cart. Currently Fierce Carbon is the cheapest at $587 AUD with free shipping. It's 26mm and has a ratchet hub
https://a.aliexpress.com/_mt5jV0B

I was a bit suspect of the wheel being an 88mm spoked wheel with a cover. I messaged the seller asking about its construction, they replied that its "PMI wall, the same as DT Swiss 1100 and Princeton Carbonworks"
Tbh, my "if it smells, looks and tastes like shit" alarm is going off here.

Does anyone have any experience or input?

Cheers

Is anyone else extremely underwhelmed at the sales? I put an order through for some bits and pieces and struggled to get over $35 AUD.

Everything else in my cart seems to be about the same price after coupons

Component Deals & Selection / Re: TT base bar brands?
« on: November 12, 2024, 05:02:26 AM »
any reason you are not looking into basebar with riser mounts like this?
https://chinertown.com/index.php/topic,5367.0.html

my bike uses similar basebar n i swapped it down side up n get the upsweep ala speedmax

They're too expensive. I quite like my clip on extensions and only wanted to try a different profile base

Component Deals & Selection / TT base bar brands?
« on: November 12, 2024, 12:48:10 AM »
Hi,

Looking for a new base bar for my TT bike.

There's a couple brands, but not many with reviews. Standalone bullhorns are quite cheap, compared to integrated base bar and extensions which can be quite pricey.
"Bigger" name Ali brands don't seem to sell base bars like Kocevlo, RXL etc.

The below brands not being sold by the official store is a minor put off too. Are there any instances of knock off's of knock off's?

Hi everyone,

Thank you for all the input. Much appreciated.

My goal is to shorten the cranks to 165mm. Here in Australia there isn't much of a second hand market for cranks, and if there is its from people doing the exact same as me.

I had a look online and 105 cranks are about $250 aud. I was hoping to avoid paying that much and getting something from Ali.

One issue is I want to keep the 2x up front juuust in case I book really hard and can't turn my legs over.
