Do YBN last? I have bought PYC chains from Ali which are supposed to be good, but have heard most Ali chains are junk that don't last.
I've been buying only Ali chains for about 3yrs.. KMC seems legit, as long as you buy from the right stores, I went through 3 chains which lasted around 8-9.000km on my Tiagra 10s
then I decided to try YBN, and it was working really well. I rode about 3.000km and the wear was minimal. Got a new bike so the 10S is now stored and for sale

oh, always keeping the chain clean, lubing each 150-200km at least, deep clean each 800-1000km

opened the topic and then vanished... lol
in oct/13 I crashed and broke my collarbone, was pretty fast but on the bike side I got lucky, it slid so scratched a bit on the left side but nothing broke, just aesthetic damage
totally my fault, was on a descent at 50kph+ and got distracted, hit a big rock in the middle of the road, the bike jumped, I lost control and hit the ground
so, now I'm out and only next year I'll be able to ride again... focus is on recovery lol

*added a photo of the bike to the first post

U ask about the bike after you bought it? Would be better to ask before, but I don't think anyone here heard about "sunspeed" if no one mentioned.
it wasn't totally unknown to me before... the Sunpeed brand is sold in Brazil, they were present in the last annual bike shows, and my local mechanic (who is the best in town) sells them, so I got some idea of its' quality
also, in China it's a well known brand, the store I went to spoke really well of it (they also carried Camp, Winspace and Elves), and some of the guys that went to the store to ride and pass time, were on sunpeed bikes

so my intent was more to find out about the background
many of these chinese companies have multiple brands under them, or sell under different names depending on the country/market.. so that's what I wanted to know if people got more info on

A good chunk of bikes prices in the west comes from shipping, so you saved money there. 105 di2 doesn't cost OEMs nearly as much as retail. Alu wheels are virtually worthless, and you probably have awful tyres too. So you probably have an entry level frame which is more likely than not perfectly fit for purpose.
If you want the bike to feel nicer, put tpu tubes with gp5000 tyres, it will transform the bike. Next would be to buy carbon wheels. The good thing being if you don't like the frame too much, you can recycle the group and wheels into a new bike.
as commented it's 105 mech, R7120
tyres are Maxxis Detonators, wired I think, I'd not say 'awful' but not too far lol. I'll probably still wear them out a bit before changing, I was thinking on the cost-efficient Conti UltraSport3/GrandSportRace, but maybe it's time I spend a bit more and try something better

but yeah, entry level frame for sure.. bike is 8,8kg complete - bottle cages, head unit, lamp and radar.
So I should be able to strip a bit with not so expensive changes, and with better wheels hopefully get to 8kg, it'd be more than enough
I should be travelling to China next year again, so maybe I'll bring a new pair of wheels lol

Any argument on that? Saying so sure it's 'fake', should know something we all don't...

Because I have 4 bibs here with EI pads (2 ykyw, 1 spexcel), and they're still very nice to ride in, we'll after a year of frequent use
I don't really know if real or fake, cannot say for sure.
What I can say is that the ones I have are well finished and comfortable.
I'd expect that for these more known brands it's real ones. But then there are 'shady' brands with much lower cost advertising EI, those cases I'd be sure it's fake

They are all fake. :(

So, anyone knows about about Sunpeed Bikes brand, if it's related to other brands, or any 'open-mould' factory?
I tried searching the forum but couldn't find much. I remember seeing something about it being related to the Twitter brand, but checking the frames from both, it doesn't seem to be the same...

Reason is, I recently went to China for work, and ended up buying a Sunpeed Invincible Expert for myself, and brought it back to Brazil
My budget wasn't so high, so for 8k CNY (~1,2k USD) it was the best I could get. Carbon frame, full 105 12s, Alu 35mm wheels...

What was the cost of your Sunpeed ? And which model ?
Sunpeed Invincible Expert, carbon frame, alu wheels, full 105 24s
it was 8k CNY + 800 CNY for the bike bag. Plus 100 USD special baggage fee from Hong Kong to Brazil (3 flights, which I though was cheap)
all assembled and adjusted, just put apart for the transport, but easy to put together at home after arriving

unfortunately it was what my budget allowed, I had already spent too much there lol
the prices for Sunpeed and Camp were pretty much the same as found in Taobao, so that helped my research and decision

I just came back from China, spent 1 month in Shunde (south, close to Hong Kong)
Not many bike stores, especially near my hotel and work, but I've managed to find some and took a look
ended up buying a bike (sunpeed brand), a bike bag, and traveled back with a new toy lol

if you want to buy a new bike, I'd say that buying a frame and building a new one would be really hard. But you can find some bike store in your area and get some good deals
especially chinese brands, I went with Sunpeed which was the cheaper, but I saw Winspace there too, a brand called Camp, also Pardus which is a bit more known, and XDS which is a big chinese manufacturer and has a lot of good deals too (but the store didn't help much, otherwise I'd have bought there)

anyway, in Shanghai you'll probably have more options, I'd recommend searching Amaps or Baidu Maps and seeing what stores there are which are easy for you to get to

Component Deals & Selection / Re: Thinkrider X2
« on: September 30, 2024, 10:44:22 AM »
GPLama tested 2 models from Thinkrider I believe, got good readings, worth checking out
here in Brazil the Thinkrider brand is pretty popular, cost-efficient trainers and the brand imports them with good value - about half what you'll pay for the similar trainer from more famous brands. What I hear about these trainers from online forums and such, is mostly good reviews too

So, I agree with Serge's point
If the Thinkriders are much less, like the example I mentioned here for Brazil, I'd go for them, should be a good option
But if the difference is not that substantial, then maybe should be more worth buying some local option, or looking at second hand offerings...
Oh, and don't forget to consider freight and possible taxes to the Aliexpress price.

worth mentioning, Shimano's issue is (from what I remember) that the readings oscillate a lot, and then are not trustworthy. GPLama also has years of reviews on Shimano PM's and comparison to other PM's
but if the readings are consistent, even if the watts are not exactly on point, then it should be ok. This comes from Hunter Allen, one of the pioneers of training with power. The real importance is not that you're doing 290, 300 or 310W during an interval, but the 100 or 150W difference from what you were doing prior. That's where the focus should be.

This mesh jersey I have one in red/maroon, it's well ventilated and works well in the summer (I live in Brazil so summer here is tough hehe). I really like it and recommend it
the only 'warning' is that the mesh let's light through, so in sunny days it's necessary to put some sunscreen under the jersey, otherwise you'll get some 'patterned' sunburn lol

about the bibs, even though I normally suffer in hot days, I don't find the YKYW particularly hot..
but I'd say the Darevie famous one - the 2 panel model, available in multiple colors, that was extensively recommended in this topic - seems to be thinner and lighter for hot days. I'd say it's worth a try

Does anyone have recommendations for very thin/breathable jerseys and bibs?

I have a good number of YKYW bibs and jerseys, but I've noticed as the weather has gotten very hot and humid they haven't done as well. The jerseys I have are pretty "solid" material, so I was looking at this jersey since it's more mesh style:

For bibs, while I really like the YKYW bibs (I have a lot of them in many different colors), these are again pretty "thick"

Has anyone found more breathable/lightweight shorts and jerseys?

Does anyone know of a high quality silicone grip similar to an ESI Extra Chunky?
I'm using ones from ODI, was like less than $5 on sale, and good quality (durability still to be checked)
but they seem more like the chunky ESI's, not 'extra'

does anyone know of any solution similar to 12speed garage door opener?
I expected to have seen something in Ali by now, but no sign... I find the product really well thought, but being outside the US and with exchange rates the 'original' option is not feasible

Component Deals & Selection / Re: Magene l508 vs garmin radars
« on: April 16, 2024, 11:03:45 AM »
adding up to the conversation, I bought the Bryton Gardia R300L a few months ago, and it's been great! Occasional false positives, but no false negatives, it does the job pretty well. Especially considering I got it cheaper than the Magene, and of course than Garmin...
This is a case of updates saving the product, initial samples and reviews trashed Bryton since there were lots of false positives and negatives. But updates improved a lot the product, and the more recent reviews I saw before buying were already more positive - which gave me confidence to risk it

Long term report on my Cyclami electric pump. It was working great, until I had a stubborn leak in one of my tubeless tires and I might have overheated the unit. It still turns on, but now I don't feel any air blowing out of it. I tried dismantling it to see if it's something I can fix, but it uses very small torx screws and I don't have a screw driver that small.
have you tried contacting the store or the brand? Maybe there's some way to test it o fix it and they guide you through it.
my cyclami mini pump is working great still, it's a bit over 6 months of use, and although not a heavy use, it pumped a fair share of tires (more from buddies than my owns lol)
I drained the battery a few times, but never got it 'overheated', so not sure how to help you :/

Shimano 10 speed Tiagra 4700 and GRX 400 use same ratio as 11s so those components you can mix and match e.g. using GRX 400 RD with 105 R7000 shifters.
just to be 100% sure on that, it means I could use 105 shifters with Tiagra 4700 RD working for 11s?
I currently have the 4700 complete groupset on my bike, it's working well but it's already 4yrs old so I was thinking of an upgrade to 105 11s, and of course any part I could keep would be an interesting saving to have  ;D

Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: TPU vs Latex innertube
« on: March 16, 2024, 02:19:10 PM »
my repair kit for these tpu tubes, I got myself the tubolito repair kit (yes, i patch my non-tubolito tubes with it).
it came with glue and patches.
The glue tube lasts a lot of patching job (so many nail n glass shards incidents). I create patches from my old retired tpu tube cutouts. I saved the tubolito thicker patches for only large cuts.
patch success rate almost 100%.
So as repair kit on the go (ie long distance, bikepacking etc) the reparability n reusability is close to/same as butyl with 1/3 the space.
Never used latex, so i cant say for latex reparability
I heard about the tpu cutouts as patches, still have to test it, though.
but about the glue, you can get a common vinyl/pvc glue, it shoulld work with the tpu material. I have been using that and heard of other people having success too
