Which of the Airwolf frames are the Epic Evo replica?

Is it 100mm rear travel or can they be set up as 120mm rear travel?

Airwolf calls it the YFM059

When it comes to travel there is a problem.  This frame and the other open mold frames that use the same design are copies of the older EPIC frame - not the EPIC EVO.  The Epic they copied had 100mm of travel but only when paired with the special brain shock that is 265x52.5mm - thats 52.2mm of stroke.

The aliexpress sellers are recommending a 190x40 shock or 190x45.  This results in a lot less than 100mm of travel.  45 stroke gets you to around 85-90mm of travel NOT the 100mm they advertise

Since the specialized EPIC EVO comes with 110mm and can be upstroked up to 120mm (using 190x40 and 190x45 respectively) with the same front triangle some people have wondered if using the EVO linkages would get to that travel.  Unfortunately the EVO rear triangle mounts to the EVO linkage very differently so you would need an EVO rear triangle as well as the linkage to make that work - or a custom CNC machined linkage that offers the leverage ratio of the EVO but fits the rear triangle of the EPIC.  its not clear how much travel the EPIC rear triangle would allow in that situation.

There is a version of this frame for sale on DIY carbon bikes that advertises 120mm of travel with a 190x40 stroke shock. It however uses the EPIC linkage just like Airwolf, Until someone proves me wrong I can only assume this is wildly false advertising and comes from the chinese suppliers who have confused the EPIC with the EPIC EVO.

I have added some images to show what an EPIC linkage looks like (from specialized website) - and its the same as the open mold copies
and an image to show what an EVO linkage looks like - allowing for much more travel using 40 and 45mm stroke shocks.

I think the Chinese companies simply got confused between the names and specs of the specialized bikes as they look very similar (and indeed the front triangle is the same), so they call it an EVO clone when it is an EPIC clone and then spec EVO shocks and advertise the 100m travel of the EPIC bike.

Hopefully this clears it up.

Can you post frame geometry and more details?  Is the chainline 52mm or 55mm?  The website doesnt work very well on my phone I cant see the details but it says UDH rear derailleur hanger?

I reached out to SP cycle and they say its a 55mm chainline frame.  Thats why it uses wide cranks.

4
Arno,
you show that you used a wide crankset for a 55mm chainline, do you think that was needed or do you think you could build with a standard boost chainline of 52mm?  how much chainring clearance do you have and what size chainring?

the 919 still isnt shown on the website, is it for sale elsewhere?

Curious why you chose to not use remote lockouts?  Do you think you would never use them?  I currently do not have them but sometimes I think it would be good
Anyway thanks for the details it really helps me.

spcycle or anyone else.  Im curious how the headset works.  I see that its a straight headtube but does the headset that comes with the frame work with standard tapered steering tubes on forks?  I assume that the larger upper bearing uses some kind of bushing with a hole in it to allow the cables/brake lines to fit down the head tube?

Did you get yours painted or unpainted?
Im also curious like you about the headset can you tell us what it comes with?  I see that the specs show 1.5inch straight headtube but does it come with bearings for a tapered fork?  looks like an integrated style headset.

Im curious about the 917.  Almost a year on how has it been for you?

Is the only difference the linkage?  You use the same shock length and stroke?  Hopefully it would be OK with a 120mm fork (im fine with it slackening the HA a little I just wouldnt want to weaken the frame from the extra fork length)

I still haven't recieved a reply from Sally at Mira from my first enquiry.  How did you go about buying it?

Hello!
I joined after lurking for a few days reading about all the different companies making open mold frames.

Im interested in something fairly specific.  Currently have a Trek Top Fuel 7 (aluminum) and its fairly heavy (by my standards).  I started riding in my youth around 30 years ago, and by the late 90s was really into XC racing on a hardtail that weighed around 21 lbs.  I pretty much stopped riding for 20 years and picked up again in 2022 and wasnt in very good shape.  I got the Trek and got back to work training and getting faster.  It of course feels pretty heavy but ive put carbon rims on it and dropped some weight off it in a few places.  As I train for races I want to reward myself for the work im doing and so im looking for a frame with similar geometry - 120mm travel but with the right shock size to get a remote lockout on it (the Trek uses 185x50 shock which isnt available from fox or RS with a lockout).  Ive compared all the major brands, I do like transition spur and fezzari signal peak, with the fezzari frame being the cheaper option.  Then I started looking at open mold frames.

Heres what im looking for:
120mm travel (might consider 110-115) because outside of racing i do ride some good trails
shock size that allows for remote lockout (cable routing for remote lockout a plus)
BSA bottom bracket (preferred over press fit - Ive never had a pressfit but it sounds like a nightmare on cheap frames with creaking etc.)
66-67 deg head angle - again outside of racing I do some aggressive trail riding

Bonus points for being made of better materials (blend of T800 and T1000 better than T700?)
Bonus points for having ISCG-05 mounts (although not a dealbreaker because I dont currently use them)
160mm disc size is fine

Here is a list of some that seem to meet my needs:
Miracle FS822 - seems new, Head angle a little steep but seems to be due to short fork length - my current favorite no idea of price or color options yet
Lexon Flyer (ebay) seems like the same as the miracle (they use a more realistic fork length and get 66.4 head angle) but ebay only has 2 color schemes and I dont want the decals.
SP cycle SPM861 - not sure about the cable routing in the headset or if it has routing for the remote lockout (doesnt look like it)
Workswell WCB-M-364 - not much info on it - looks like you can spec a BSA bb but its also a vertical shock 185x55
BXT-MTB-147 (ebay) - looks nice except 69 deg head angle - I guess I could use an offset headset and slacken it a little but thats more work.
Carbonda FM1001 - more travel than I need unless I use 185x50 which put me back to no remote lockout, I suppose its possible to go longer travel with a lockout (185x55)

Am I missing any companies?  Winowsports and DIYcarbonbikes are pressfit BB.  Airwolf YFM059 doesnt have enough travel for my taste.
