Component Deals & Selection / Re: Coins On Aliexpress website

I dont even bother to collect them anymore. The discount isn't ever significant enough to make it worthwhile.

When credits of such small monetary value can be collected faster than you can use them, you know they are a waste of time.

I've been using one of the ryet carbon railed 3d mesh seats for a while. It works fine and doesn't bother me at all. 30 bucks vs 300 is hard to argue with.

I tried some Cooma pink pads. Most of them went in the trash. Using galfer wave rotors I burned through a set in a couple of weeks and they were noisy af when wet. I was not impressed at all.

I have a vevor also. Works great for personal use. I'm not running it for hours on end every day. Might not be as great for heavy shop use but I would totally buy again.

I ordered a pair of Cheji bibs.
https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806211305421.html

6' / 78kg

I ordered XL based on recommendations/size chart.

Fit is okay. I should probably be in a size L instead of the XL. Fit of these inexpensive garments is always a bit of a gamble. Legs are pretty long covering about 2/3 of my thigh. 2.5hr ride in them was comfortable enough on the pad. I'm not sure how they would feel at 5 or 10hrs. I'm not keen to find out. Construction seems quality.

There are so many seams and hems everywhere. I'm not a fan. These will be relegated to winter trainer time. The straps are hemmed on both edges. The numerous fabric panels are all stitched together. I vastly prefer bibs with as few seams as possible. Fabric is decidedly not as nice as the PI or PMCC bibs that I usually use, but those cost 5x more.

I won't buy another pair.

I've used several from ali. IME using with DuraAce they slowly bent with use and required periodic adjustment. I was worried about the fatigue of the cheap aluminum and switched to using a more expensive one.

Component Deals & Selection / Re: Bottle cages that actually hold bottles?
« on: September 06, 2024, 11:52:29 AM »
I am using the Zee Cage 2 on all my bikes with specialized purist bottles. Havent lost a bottle on MTB/Gravel or road. And its availiable in left and right.

https://www.bike24.com/p2366229.html

The Zee Cage 2 (mtb) and the Tune Wasserträger 2.0 (road) cages are the only 2 cages I've used that have been 100% reliable. Every other cage has ejected a bottle at some point. Road and MTB both. I don't care at all if cages scratch and mark up my bottles. In fact, I lightly sand the outside of my bottles when they are new to create a rougher surface that better grips the cage. Function first. Style second.

For mtb rides I know will be aggressive time attacks I don't even use cages anymore. I use a hydration pack instead because it is 100% reliable under all conditions.

Honest question: Are you not washing your cloths, bibs especially, before first ride? Maybe I'm weird but I'm not sure I want my junk rubbing against any industry left-overs from the factory.

Sounds exciting.

Although a totally different crankset, I've experienced this exact problem. Your description is spot on.

In my case, it wound up being the preload ring. Simply backing it off, resetting the tension, and cranking the screw tight resolved the problem for me. I never really figured out why this was a problem, but I was super happy to figure it out. That sound was making me insane.

I have one of these on the way in the post somewhere now. It was on sale last week for $30. We'll see how it works out.

This is a good unit. I'm not sure I'll ever use it because of the size and weight compared to CO2 but the device is quality and works as advertised.

Component Deals & Selection / Re: Cooling fan for indoor cycling
« on: September 03, 2024, 09:31:59 PM »
I use 2x Lasko U15617 fans. I bought both of mine from Amazon Warehouse for less than $50 ea. It requires some patience to catch them at discount.

They are fantastic. I set them to two different speeds and can toggle them from a power strip I mounted within reach of my indoor bike.

I also installed two industrial ventilation fans in my attic and have a 6" flexible dryer duct coming out of my ceiling that I can point wherever I want. I can pull cold air in from outside and/or exhaust hot air to the outside. These are also run through switched plugs on my power strip.

Vacmaster is another good choice.

Titanium bleed port screws (for shifter) because shimano cheaped out on garbage bolts that often strip: aliexpress.com/item/1005007383500821.html
Awesome again. 3mm hex instead of 2mm for shimano, feel a little lighter but thread is good

Be careful with these. It wasn't until I accidentally stripped the plastic threads out of a shifter with my fancy upgraded bolts that I realized the shimano bolts are shitty for a reason. They are a sacrificial part intended to fail before you strip the threads out of your shifter. :) Interesting thing is that the threads stripped out while removing the bolt, not installing it. I'm sure it was my error overtightening it but it wasn't until I removed the Ti bolt that it ripped the threads out. Use caution.
