The rig is finally finished! It was a really stress-free build. Routing the cables through the head tube and cockpit was easy. I’ll have to hold off on initial ride impressions for now—I want to take this beauty out in nice weather. 😀 It tipped the scales at 6.645 kg in the end (ready to ride, including pedals, bottle cage, and Garmin mount)—that’s a solid weight to work with. Now my own body needs to go on a similar diet; otherwise, the rider and the bike won't really match. 😁 A parts list with weights will follow. The total cost came to around €3,800 (though I reused the crankset, chain, and cassette from my old bike).

Here are a few photos: is the gap too big? I’m currently using the original LTK bearings in the headset, so the fit at the bottom should be perfectly normal. Did you use an additional silver centering ring (see photo) on the steerer tube here? It came with the FSA No. 55 headset. At the top, I just installed the Lightcarbon C-ring, which causes the dust cap to stick out a bit. In the other photos, I’ve captured the specifications of the FSA bearings (bottom: TH MR127 1.5 36°x45° / 5; top: TH MR261A 1.5° ID42 45°x45°).


The expander was not yet installed in that state—there was no tension from above via the Ahead cap.

Okay, so the original LTK bearings are actually a tight fit; I had to press them in with my fingers. The other issue is that I have to use the Lightcarbon C-ring because the other two (FSA No. 55 and the original LTK one) don't fit the headset dust cap. That C-ring, in turn, only fits properly with the original LTK bearings; with the FSA headsets, the Lightcarbon C-ring doesn't seem to seat correctly (it doesn't quite match the bearing's angle or chamfer). I also have two different size specifications for the FSA headsets—I'll take a photo of that later. With the current setup, I'd have a gap of about 2–3 mm above and below the head tube.

So, my FSA No. 55 headset doesn't seem to fit quite right; the upper bearing is too loose and has play. The original bearings fit better. I also have to use the C-ring and spacers supplied with the Lightcarbon HRB17. Effectively, the only part of the FSA No. 55 bundle I'm actually using is the included expander. A question for everyone who has already built up their LTK: how much clearance do you have between the head tube and the fork at the bottom, and between the head tube and the handlebar dust cap at the top?

Mine initially protruded a few millimeters, now it lies a little lower, but not 8mm.

As many have already mentioned, the M5 bolt on the seat post clamp is actually too long; it doesn't sit flush with the top tube, causing the dust cap to stick out. I’ve now bought a 30mm M5 bolt, and it fits perfectly. I’m using a Giant dust cap, and it fits perfectly now, too! I can provide feedback on the headset once my handlebar arrives. I’ve ordered the FSA No. 55 LS and a Lightest HBR17 cockpit with an FSA adapter. Still waiting for delivery!

How are the brake lines routed? The front brake line is self-explanatory: on the LTK fork, it exits at the front of the steerer tube and runs directly through the FSA headset and spacers into the Lightcarbon HRB17 handlebar, leading to the left brake lever. What about the rear brake line? In the attached image, the red circle represents the steerer tube viewed from above. Do you route the rear brake line like the green line (where the line runs upwards behind the steerer tube) or like the purple line (where the line loops around in front of the steerer tube)? In the latter case, the front and rear brake lines would cross each other—either at the level of the steerer tube or, at the latest, where they enter the cockpit. Hopefully, someone understands what I mean. 😄

With the frame I bought yesterday, the headset parts were included in the total price, though an expander wasn't part of the package. However, I also purchased the FSA No. 55 LS headset along with a Lightcarbon HBR17 handlebar and FSA adapter (€168)—though that part hasn't been delivered yet. I can report back on it later. The headset itself didn't cost me much (€30). Another question: does anyone happen to have a link (perhaps from Amazon) to a rubber plug or cover for the hole near the front derailleur—the one intended for the Di2 cable? I have rubber plugs at home, but they’re too big. I assume the tiny hole under the bottom bracket (facing the road surface) is supposed to stay open so water can drain out? Thanks for your help!

Frame is @ my home! Looks perfectly. Waiting for front derailleur and Zen Wheelset. Should be round about UCI weight Limit @ the end. 866g for my painted frame is fantastic (Size L). Don't buy the heppe thruaxles, cause the original one are only 18g heavier. Bottom Bracket T47 is well threaded. I can't wait to ride my new mountain goat next year @ötztaler Radmarathon.

What Vinylstripes you bought? You have a Special technique for that or freestyle? Have a blackmatte Tantan and perhaps this is a possibility to Upgrade the optic.

Thanks for your input. Ultimately—with the exception of the front and rear derailleurs (Force components from my old bike)—all the components will likely be SRAM Red. As for the wheels, I went with a 1077g ZEN wheelset featuring Alpina Hyperlite spokes. My goal is to end up at around 6.8 kg for the complete, ride-ready bike—including pedals, bottle cages, and a Garmin mount. That is why I am looking for a handlebar in the 280–330g range.
