Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: Crankset options 165mm?
« on: August 16, 2024, 02:02:35 PM »
@OP - this is what I use. The arm length can be adjusted to 160, 162.5, or 165mm

There are other lengths available too!

Have you been using this and how are you liking it so far? Thinking about picking this up and wanted to see others' opinions.

Been using it mostly on my trainer. Had issues getting it dialed to my fit since it is narrower than my Berk Lupina saddle, but it was surprisingly good once I got it dialed in!

As it is narrower, it felt like I could spin faster, and allowed me to drop further to a more aero position comfortably or when on the drops because of the 'eagle beak' without causing numbness down there!

I am using a SRAM Quarq. If you intend on purchasing an aerosensor at some point there's possibly some merit to opting for a dual-sided pedal system. Quarqs are nearly as good, ~1/5th the price, and allow for experimenting with aero pedal options.

Thank you!

Info for anyone else who may be purchasing. Spacer bolts are M5, I bought sets in 20mm increments from 40-100mm from Bolt Depot for <$10 to play with pad height. I believe the spacers are compatible with the PD A3A riser kit, but have yet to order and check -- still getting other aspects of the fit dialed.

Some niggles:

- the hardware holding the arm rests / clamping the extensions is incredibly soft. I recommend replacing it right away.
- had to sand down the seatpost to allow for movement within the seattube
- bottle cage mounts are too far down the downtube to mount a standard bottle cage. Even with a sideloader the rear wheel cut out is too large to allow the bottle to sit flush. Might be fixed on larger sizes, but if even a 54 is too small I doubt it. Using a Wolftooth B-Rad to move it farther up the downtube for now, and planning to try the Cervelo aero bottle, which looks like it may clear.
- Stem clamps from only one side and has a weak hold on the steerer. Needs to be torqued to 6-7Nm or it still wants to turn. Going to try adding some carbon paste and see if that helps.

a bit out of topic but what powermeter are you using with the zele cranks?

I have the same cranks and deciding whether to get a spider based or pedal based PM.

The red pads in my cheji bibs are just as good as any of my top brand stuff. I'd say they're superior to my santini pads. Still, Rosti make my favourite pad overall.

hey can you link to this cheji bib? I've got one on my cart with the red pad as well, but I don't know if this is what you were referring to.

Thanks!

Does anyone know of a high quality silicone grip similar to an ESI Extra Chunky?

check Wolftooth's Fat Paw grips

This is the like to the store. Unfortunately I think I am going to have to get another as I am finding it a bit big. I am 6' tall and bought the large but I am a bit too stretched out for my liking. I did a bit more painting to mine after I got it as well. It is a great riding frame with very few issues in the build up.

Mine just arrived today in Canada, one day short of 2 weeks from order time. Everything looks great apart from having to clean the threads on the BB on the non drive side and pant work looks excellent with no blemishes. FWIW bought the Ceccotti version from a different "store" on ALI (very well reviewed).

I ordered the L size and find its similar to the 56-57 CM bikes I have. It definitly feels smaller then a 58 CM Trek 920 that is my every day bike. The only mistake I made was ordering a handlebar with a too short of stem as I expected the size to be more like my 920.

Hello! I'm from Canada as well and quite interested with the same frame!

Can you share the link where you purchased the frameset? TIA!

It pretty much looks like that. Anyhow, I chased Chris again and was told they'll be shipping my order on Saturday (initially promised mid-week, but ok..).

Fingers crossed!

I got my order yesterday (finally!). It is indeed well made and weighs 180g on my scale. It has some minor imperfections with the upholstery underneath, but very negligible.

The only problem is that Chris told me initially that it comes in 15CM width that's why I ordered it, but what I got is only 13CM. What a bummer! :(

Cinelli Cork Ribbon is the gold standard IMO if you want a firm, “dry” (instead of rubbery/tacky) but grippy feel.

I’m experimenting with Wolf Tooth Supple right now on my new CFR707, which is 5mm thick and 40mm wide — I have big hands and usually run 33mm grips on my MTBs — but tricky to install, has a very “moist” feel, attracts every conceivable kind of dirt or debris and refuses to let it go.

I wish Cinelli Cork or something with a similar texture came in a thicker version, but normal width. I’ve had trouble finding any other tapes thicker than 2.5mm, and will probably just swap out to the Cinelli until I find something else that seems worth trying.

the closest to Cinelli Cork I can think of is Deda Traforato at 2.7mm (40g only!) i use this and i love it!

also, it might not be like Cinelli Cork but check Lizard Skins dsp v2 with sizes 1.8mm, 2.5mm, 3.2mm and 4.6mm

My new favourite is the fake supacaz tape from aliX. i pay 4.5-5 eur for it. Looking at a video from the YT Florida bike shop (his name escapes me), i was able to wrap it from the top of the bars without tape, it's been holding up very well for c.200km, at this point i think it will last long enough.

is the texture rubbery instead of feeling plasticky? if yes, please can I get the link? TIA! :)
