Mostly for the weight savings. Shimano cranks are not the best and are very heavy. If you like the idea of all the parts matching then stick with the Shimano Ultegra crankset. The EliLee cranks are roughly 200 grams (1/2 lbs) lighter. Which is considerable.

For 2X, I would also go with Shimano.

R8100 Shifters, Brake Calipers, Derailleurs, and Chainrings (very cheap prices on AliX, the last I checked it was less than $800 US)
EliLee Carbon crank
Dura ace chain and cassette.

With so many branded 696s out there, it's surprising no one makes a direct mount derailleur hanger for this frame.
