That is very interesting - I had not come across T47 until this thread.  If you look closely at my bb it does not have a thread to screw into the shell - it needs to be pressed* in.  I believe I 'press' in the drive side first and then insert the non drive side by screwing it in until it hits the shell and use one of these tools that I will buy to continue screwing in the bb.  Until it mates with the bb/shell.

* I've pressed in press-fit bottom brackets before but interestingly this bb has two ridges on each side of the cup that is pressed into the shell.

Coffeebreak - Thank you.  I was writing my last post while you posted yours.  This has been quite a journey for me.  As you said, it boils down to the 16 notches and 49mm.

OK, I think I can clarify a few things here.  My frame has a bb386 (dia 46mm) bottom bracket with a 86mm shell.   The actual bottom bracket I have is (I think) a T47 type that has internal bearings (this explains to me the 'thin' outer compare to those with external bearings).  The outer of my bb, that you fit a install/removal tool onto, has 16 notches.  As detailed in one of my post the bb is in two parts that are screwed together - I guess this so it can be fitted to a number of shell types/widths.  Hope this helps.

Actually, looking in more detail I'm not sure these three tools are the same.

MUQZI 12 16 Notch Bike Bottom Bracket Tool 39/41/44/46/49mm Install Removal Wrench for Shimano SRAM Chris King FSA MegaExo Etc   (the one that is hand held)

MUQZI 5 in 1 Bike Bottom Bracket Tool For For DUB BSA30 BBR60 MT800 BB93 Bottom Bracket Cups Lockring Install Removal Tools  (the one that has a torque wrench fitting)

and

ZTTO 5 in 1 Bottom Bracket Tool TL fc24 fc25 DUB BBR60 BB93 Mega evo BB52 BSA30 BB386 Installation Tool Remover Repair key Cups

My bb definitely has a 16 notch outer ring and as near as dammit 49mm diameter.  So I'm guess the right one is the MUQZI 12 16 - although it would be nice to have something like this but with a torque wrench fitting.  Thanks for your help on this one.

Yes - from what I have read this is a T47 bb - the one I have screws together so it has a variable width (3.jpg).  My issue is really what I have said above.  Will that tool fit with this bb?  (Out of interest what does the PF part of PF T47 refer to?).

Brilliant - thank you. Do you think this is what I need?

I am happy with 16 notch and 49mm diameter but unsure about the different 'outer' type on these bottom brackets.  As per 1.jpg and 2.jpg.

Will these '386' removal tool fit both types.  The images in the url above so type 1.jpg whereas I have 2.jpg - hence I'm nervous to buy.

I have just had a frame delivered from Dengfu that includes a bottom Bracket (unbranded of course).  I need two tools so I can tighten the BB up (each side) but having trouble either identifying what type of bb this is or specifically, what tool to buy.  Attached is a picture of the bb.  If anybody can help me locate a tool that would tighten this BB it would be appreciated.  This bb and the frame bb is a type 386.  Edit - I am communication with Dengfu but it is proving difficult so far.

Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / Dengfu HB015 and R13 Frame
« on: July 19, 2024, 07:53:05 AM »
Just unpacked my new Dengfu R13 frame and hb015 handlebars.  Assembled roughly in order to check fittings etc.  I have yet to cut the steerer tube and properly fix the forks to the frame.  Bearings inserted but no grease. So ... next job is too apply grease, cut fork steerer tube, fit headset top cap and tighten everything up.  However, the attached pictures show a gap between the frame and the headset top cover.  Before I do anything do you think this gap will close when I insert the headset compression plug and tighten the whole thing up or does something look wrong?
