How much did you guys pay for this frame? Thinking of possibly upgrading from my ican p9. What would happen if I put a 210x55 shock in this?

the ICAN version which is the X17, was 780 for the frame, thru axle and headset.  shipping to the US was 226.  the Carbonda version was around $250 more if i remember correctly.

I’ve come to trust the Carbonda 1003/1266 through a full season of high intensity park riding (nearly every week since mid May, most 17,000-20,000 vertical) and am aiming to build a 1286 alongside it for next year. It’s really impressive what it’s stood up to for such a complex shock driver linkage and such a little known factory.

I’d be a bit nervous to trust the ICAN version to do the same, given that it is likely of significantly different construction and just uses the same molds. But I hope that eventually we hear from X17 owners that it does just as well.

I have some 1266 vs 1286 sizing questions to ask y’all soon and some Carbonda build threads to post at last…now that park season is over, I’ll be a lot more active here again leading up to (hopefully, since I’m very attached to this idea now) the 1286 build.

Are they not just the same frame being sold under different brands? I've had their p9 for the last 3/4 years and it's been brilliant.

X17 owner here.  i love mine.  my understanding is that the ICAN version uses different fibers.  not sure if it matters but i don't really care.  I just did the Whole Enchilada in Moab with mine it was great.  i am not a light rider either, 105kg plus riding gear.  i think durability is going to the same for both Carbonda and ICAN.  there is not much of a secret sauce when it comes to building bike frames.  none of these frame are pushing the boundaries of weight so the layups are not exotic or ground breaking.  if ICAN made a 1286 and i could save $250 i would go that route instead of the Carbonda.  i am hoping that by the time i am ready to order, ICAN have got their own version.  just snapping up Shimano Saint parts and building wheels at the moment.

Similar situation for me! I have a bar, cranks, direct mount stem (ANVL Swage), 250x75 shock (Bomber Air, likely to be upgraded later) and a couple other small parts. Trying to decide whether to go full Saint or some kind of mix.

Originally wanted to put Dominion A4s on but am going to wait and get this build done first so I can see how I like the 1286 compared with the 1266 before spending $300 more on brakes alone. For now I’m trying to find good deals on parts like a dual crown fork — Suntour Rux is tempting but I’m hoping to find a way to afford a Fox 40. I want it to be as similar to my 1266 as possible, just the next step up in firepower and toughness.

Still deciding on stuff like 20x110/12x157 hubs, but the Hope Pro 5 is at the top of the list.

I am leaning rux as it will match my fleet.  i have been very impressed with all of my Suntour forks and shocks so far.  Hubs was very tough for me.  i am OCD about my group set matching and my hubs not being mismatch.  that leaves very few companies that make a super boost rear and 20x110 front.  i ended up going with the Novatec hubs for now.  i bought some DT swiss FR541 rims so i can rebuild the wheels later if i have hub issues. I came across a set of saint brakes a while back.  i now have the drive train and wheels but fork shock and bar/stem are still up for debate.

No, not yet but I should ASAP with the uncertainty over tariffs. Right now I’m putting together listings for some of the frames and parts I’ll sell to help fund the frame. I don’t expect to finish the build until around or after the start of park season (mid May) so there isn’t a huge rush otherwise…though staring at a half finished project like that all winter can be frustrating.

I have a Fox 38 on the 1003 and like the idea of being able to swap to a DH bike with a 40 and have minimal change in jumping behavior since that’s my focus….plus there’s the aesthetic issue of my favorite red mirror chrome decals from Slik Graphics not being available for the Rux. But Suntour makes great forks and i see them for under $1000 whereas the 40 GRIP X2 might not go lower than the $1475 Black Friday sales before spring, and even the GRIP 2 version still goes for ~$1300 new on eBay.

Lots of these kinds of decisions to obsess over this winter. Hopefully it’ll go by faster than it feels like it will right now
