$1,200 Complete Carbon 29er
« on: May 12, 2014, 06:36:32 AM »
Wow, I didn't expect to see a complete carbon bike under $1,500 so soon.  Just got an email from Price Point this morning, they are running a one day special on a basic build, Haro carbon framed bike for $1,200.  The big brands should be concerned, this is 1/3rd the cost of anything they have to offer.  Not necessarily all that great of components but hey it's a $1,200 carbon 29er!

Really decent bike for the money. It seems pretty insane to me that someone would be so mesmerized by a marketing campaign, that would literally pay about that price for just a carbon hardtail frame set.

Components aren't too shabby, but definitely not high end. It's missing thru axles front and rear. That said the Rock Shox 30 TK gets good reviews.. Brakes and saddle probably need upgrading, I personally could't stand having a low end aluminum cock pit on a carbon frame, but I'm picky.

One could buy this bike for $1200 and spend $600 on a very nice carbon rim wheelset and have a pretty sweet bike for $1800. The problem with that is.. your frame and wheels are so nice at that point that I couldn't stand to not bring everything else up to par to match those standards.. Can't have cheap/heavy tires on carbon rims.. and on and on it would go  ;D ... but that's me, others may not would have that concern.

Either way.. $1200 is very low for a complete carbon hardtail by today's standards.

The cost is not quite double what I spent on my first real mountain bike, a KHS soft tail, but the components on the Haro are better, and IT'S GOT A CARBON FRAME! :).

Wonder which of the Chinese manufacturers makes the frame  8).

Love Haro glad they are still around. Especially since they are pushing the envelope. Prior cheapest was GT zaskar for 1700. Gotta love the old school BMX brands.

I think this carbon bike weights the same as my aluminium bike with more hi end parts for the same price.
"Whow, is this carbon? Heavy!". "Is this aluminium? Not heavy!". Same price, same weight. I prefer the last one. :)

Given two bikes of equal weight and equal cost, I will take the carbon framed bike, it will ride much better with far less vibration.  Carbon soaks up small bumps, AL beats you up.
