Carbon frame feels like plastic
« on: January 22, 2015, 05:10:05 AM »
Just got my FR-216 UD matte frame from Flyxii today. It was suprisingly light, and i felt like plastic :P Of course am I a little skeptical about chinerframes. But can anyone else confirm the plastic feeling when touching the frame? I have never touched a carbon frame before, so I don´t have any preferences.

Haha, I know. But I were just suprised on the "feeling" of the frame in my hands. I dosn´t say it´s plastic, just how I felt it. I´m used to aluframes, and it seems alot less ridgid than what I´m used to.

When I first got mine I thought the same thing. Feels odd/weird after having alloy frames for so long.

Sounds weird when you tap on it too.. Like, am I seriously supposed to expect this to support my body weight? lol.

This is what's so awesome about CF frames, it's not like any other frame material.  Anytime I stop in my LBS, I'm always tapping on the carbon frames :).

I´m glad it´s not only me that felt that way. Though it was just the fork and accessories that came today since the package was so light.

Then it´s just to order the rest of the parts and start the build! I will make a build thread if I remember to take enough pictures ;)

Actually it is plastic :)

Well, a composite of carbon fibers and epoxy resin (plastic).  The surface is all resin or a cover film, so what you're touching really is plastic.

Try squeezing the down tube- if it's like my -057, it feels like you could crush it in your hand. :)

i love carbon, weight and comfort. Would not consider going back to metal frames. Yes it feels like plastic but resists like crazy. I guess you could visit a bike store near you and have a felling test on their branded carbon bikes  ;D
