I built up a GR029 last year for primarily for cross, and it's been fantastic. Great value for the money. Offically clears 42's, but my gravel tires blow out to a little over 44 and they still have decent clearance. Decently light as well. Not as stiff as my previous TCX, but my back is thankful for that on the dry bumpy courses we have here. I plan on buying a second one soon for a pit bike.
My only complaints are minor:
- The front axle has an removable insert that it threads into, rather than it being bonded into the fork. Kind of a pain in the ass when doing wheel changes to have one more piece to keep track of.
- My frame arrived with a bit of clear coat overspray in the headtube and wouldn't fit the headset bearings. It took some very minor sanding with a fine grit to get it to fit, so not a huge deal. Annoying, but part of what you're getting by saving the money on a "Western" branded frame.
8/10, would (and will) buy again.
