But the SRAM advantage is having the greater range of the 10-42 cassette which Shimano does not give you.

Which chainring did you select (28T -> 38T)?
Do you have several of them?

The standard 32T works fine for me.

Thanks. When ordering parts few weeks ago, I used an online gear ratio calculations to compare with my current Shimano M970.

The not very brave 28T came at the same ratio for the low speed, while loosing the 3 top speeds.
Being unsure I took that one to try first. I'll see mounted how it goes.
