Brake Disc Rotor - Roadbike - recommendation? Aliexpress?
« on: August 22, 2023, 04:29:17 AM »
Hi Guys,

i'm looking for some decent disc brake discs 140+160 mm + centre lock.

Does anyone here have a recommendation?
Preferably with a good price on Aliexpress due to the discount week.

I just found these - they are recommended by Elitewheels.
Does anyone here have any experience?

That's damn expensive. I would encourage you to search the second hand market, you can find great deals.
I bought 2 pairs of brand new shimano SMRT64 with 2 pairs of pads for 20€
Also, these centerlock lock rings that require a 44mm wrench can go straight to hell.

These are a very cheap upgrade that saves quite a lot of weight and is ten times more convenient

Those are rebadged ZRace rotors and selling for cheaper than what ZRace sells them for. Though they're a bit heavy for 160mm rotors.

I've been using these Onirii rotors. I just weighed them last night and they weigh 102g for rotor + 7g for lock ring.

The Onirii stuff has been really top notch. I ended up buying a 2nd pair rotors for one of my road bike after good experiences with the 1st pair I tried on my other road bike.

At the price of ZRace rotors I'd just buy genuine Sram Centerlock... Brakes are one place where being cheap or trying to save weight is legit dangerous.

With that said, I'm interested in these floating rotors as they have steel braking surface, alloy fins (no metal sandwich as seen on Shimano Shitetech tho) and cost 18€ shipped (although there might be additional cost in order to run these with centerlock wheels)  https://www.aliexpress.us/item/1005001547957941.html

All I do is climb and descend and I think the Onirii rotors are legit. They're being used by the sponsored Onirii pro race teams in Asia. Plus they make a cool whooshing sound when you brake!

I didn't have good experience with Zrace rotors (though it was a cheaper model). Now I just get Shimano RT10/30/54 and get on with it. Almost as cheap and no squealing.

I just went with low end shimano rotors from Ali on my gravel bike. No problem locking up my brakes with them.

I ordered a pair of those two piece rotors by IIIPro on Aliexpress. They come in different colors. 108g for a 160mm rotor which is decent given that it’s not a crazy lightweight design. I’ll put them on my gravel bike and see how it goes.
