Author Topic: Shimano HG Cassette removal tool-long enough to fit over the 12mm thru-axle  (Read 388 times)

My current one has done me great service on my several old MTBs and previous road bike - all QR skewers ofc and my previous brake discs have all been the 6 bolt versions.

Now I've got myself into today's biking world, I find the thru-axle spacer is preventing the tool teeth reaching the brake disc centrelock lockring, though still ok on the cassette side.

So I need one with sufficiently long internal clearance to reach over the spacer on the disc side - anyone able to point me to such a thing?

Replying to my own post - one of these looks like it might do the job.

Any thoughts?

I don't know about Ali, but I got one on Amazon that I'm quite happy with. I liked it so much, I bought their version of a bottom bracket tool, too.

The one I bought has a removable pin (feels magnetic, maybe) that lets you use it with 12mm thru axle, but when you remove the pin it has whatever the correct size is for QR. For like $12, you get both.

Thanks - that one looks a bit higher quality than the AE one, plus the flexible pins look like a helpful addition.

I already bought the AE one I linked to above - type A with no pin & it arrived yesterday. I've just tested it & can confirm it fits over the spacer fine.
