Please start using Mywhoosh?

Being allergic to subscriptions, and finding Zwift to be awfully bad given:
- how long they've been around (I recommend the interview of the CEO by DC Rainmaker, the CEO is an epic clown, it's pretty amazing),
- how little they've innovated since inception (the graphics and 90% of the UI is THE SAME since day 1 (again, see the interview)),
- and how much money they've burnt,
i've tried a few alternatives.

I think Mywhoosh has now reached a point when what it's missing most is users. I wish they'd pay me to say that, i'd happily shill for a totalitarian regime, but they dont.

The graphics are much better than Zwift. I havent used it much, probably just under 10x, and it's buggy in various ways (for example sometimes you can overlap with another user, instead of moving to the side), the UI is pretty confusing because they have coins, and then 2 other types of coins that aren't coins, and you have to click to unlock things and what not, but it's honestly working quite well now. They added a ton of routes, worlds, and challenges, so it's gamified quite well. The aerodynamics modeling is rather dubious, which irritates me, but then again, the whole thing's free.

Interestingly, the training section seems much better than Zwift's. I havent tried one yet, but i browsed a bit, and it looks legit. I will probably follow a plan to try it out.

While i'm considering a trainer road subscription because i do think that personalized coaching is valuable, what you get from Zwift for the money they charge is, i think, a bottomless pit.

You will own nothing and be happy

Fast on the flat. And nowhere else.

I’ve used MyWhoosh a few times and its nice but I usually use IndieVelo though because it runs better on my machine and offers a super solid, albeit basic user interface that I like.

I am on my trainer 3-4 times a week due to my schedule/responsibilities. I mostly do basic z1-2 rides and a few different interval sessions.  I like the pace bots and doing the occasional race, but it is kind of lonely.

I may start using MyWhoosh exclusively if IndieVelo starts charging.  I did like MyWhoosh's large workout library.

Maybe this thread can add on or pivot into a list of usernames on various virtual riding platforms?

I've been using Mywhoosh on my iPhone for quick 20-45 minute rides. It's been great so far and easy to get going.

Well, as a beta user i support zwift from the beginning....i am happy to pay their subscription fees as they provide the best online platform for my purpose, i use it year around..
i rather have a ceo being a clown, then coming from abu dhabi!

Check their terms: stream or otherwise make available your use of the App and/or Services (including rides and races) on any platform whether or not for the purpose of commercial/monetary gain (for example streaming on YouTube).
so no live prideride possible, lol...

Is indoor training helpful if I live in year round cycling weather? Part of the reason I ride outdoors is to avoid being indoors. Plus I already live in varied terrain. I have access to  hill climbs and long flats from my front door. The only other reason I might consider indoor training is to do virtual rides with friends who don't live close by. In that regards, maybe a non-subscription cycling app might be worth trying.

Seconded. I've used mywhoosh and indievelo a bunch last year when my (third) zwift free trial ended and they're great. By far my biggest complaints for both was how lonely I felt being surrounded by bots or just alone in the world. I think I slightly prefer indievelo as you don't need the windows store and it ran better, but they're both great. Fuck the subscription economy

well, it depends..

do you just want to ride? or do you want to train?

I have checked ALL platforms and always end up with zwift...because i always find somebody i know or to ride with, i am member of several clubs...there are special triathlete workouts from trainers i can join...i can race! you cannot race against yourself...
once again, joining a platform of a country which desrespects human rights should not even come up your mind! just because its free...you think its free but you pay with your gas..

I've tried them all and the best is wahoo systm for me. It has best testing and training plans. Great videos with music, motivation or locations. It is also the only that implements strength training, stretching, yoga and even mental training. Best tool for all in one training package for winter.

I really don't get the social aspect of zwift, I'm not looking for virtual friends. Also zwift races are stupid imo. People just pushing all in on every ride in winter are the ones who are already burned/overtrained when summer start. Winter on a trainer is all about getting the most of your training in the least time. Time for pushing watts without any structure is in the summer on your bunch ride

Then there are also apps like Rouvy with real world video but man those virtual riders on real video look super weird.

My vote is for wahoo systm as it has the best package by far. If you wanna make serious gains in the winter and work on your weak sides this is the best tool.

If you want to go low budget, than i can recommend icTrainer.
It's minimalistic, but with all the features you need like structured plans or real routes with video and you can even import your one gpx routes if you like. Also you can minimize the hub and go transparent as an overlay when you want to watch some series or movies while basemileling.
But, to be honest, some things like the UI could be more intuive. But for 24€/year you can't really moan.

The GTA V mod looks really interesting-not sure if it's still being supported.

I ride through the real life version of GTA Los Santos. Sometimes the game version isn't so far off from reality!

I went from Zwift to MyWhoosh. I really don’t care about the social aspect or virtual racing. I’m looking for structured training and that’s where MyWhoosh is just better than Zwift. And it’s free. So that’s a no brainer. Wahoo SYSTM is nice but the videos and especially the subs IMO are cringe worthy. Also I don’t need to stare at ten year old pro races to stay motivated. And the yoga and mental lessons are not worth the monthly rate for me. I rather use MyWhoosh and spend that money elsewhere.

I used to have connection issues with MyWhoosh. But it seems they’ve ironed out those bugs. Now it’s reliable.

Yes, this is a very good software! And the founder is German...i would not say it is minimalistic!
But it will always loose against the cheapo for free software from middle east...

so please stop using mywhoosh..just think about it..

I'll try both - thanks for getting the trainer discussion started ahead of winter weather.

An issue with my whoosh is that it requires recent hardware which I don’t have and don’t plan to get just for the sake of a free app.

I can run zwift on my old ass iPad without any issues, and that’s fine.

Having said that, I actually don’t use either anymore. I’m back to TrainerRoad plus Netflix and it’s the best app I’ve tried so far for performance gains.
