500mm Axle to Crown fork
« on: October 19, 2024, 06:55:56 AM »
I'm sure this has been done to death, but I'm looking to "upgrade" my Judy Silver Air to a rigid.

I wouldn't mind a rigid Alu but these are difficult to find these in matching specs, so I'm looking at Ali carbon offerings.

Narrowed down to half a dozen, most have 480 CL, Judy nominal is 506 (as per Specialized specs).

The "tallest" option I found so far is FK-11, but little feedback on these or sales history. Hoping for your options on this:

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum area - please move if needed.

I actually have one of these forks (or at least it looks the same). I bought it from elita one a few years back on sale. The quality of the fork was half decent.

My issues where: the post mount for the brake was not compleated flat (needed to be faced), the through axle was super heavy, and the fork had somewhat limited tire clearance (2.3 if I remember).

The 480mm should be fine since the 26mm is supposed to correct for the sag of the fork.

Thanks, I've heard machining is often needed for brake mounts as well as clean up of the crown area.

As for the 480mm Axle to crown - I've measured the static sag - it's <5mm with fork air pressure set as recommended for my weight - meaning to maintain the geo I do need a 500mm fork?

If this didn't matter I'd go for:

an Alu (485mm) https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32873574338.html or
OG-EVKIN FK-007 (475mm? - TBC) https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001316304690

That Alu fork takes 180mm rotor without adapters too.

I have not experience with that fork but I have had f4 or 5 flyxii frames and never had an issue with them.  The brake mounts did need some work on one of my frames but I paid a shop like $60 to do it. Over all I was very happy with their products. They have been around for a while too.
