Sorry for my ignorance, but I'm not sure which nut to pick from aliexpress for installing my BBT47. Happy for any links on ali.
Thanks!

There are different types of t47 bbs and they might not all share the same interface (and even then, not all tools/bbs will work together regardless of the interface). So you might want to clarify which specific bb you refer to.

Urgh, internal t47 cups ones can be a pain to get to torque (or remove the damn things later).

As for the type of tool, count the notches and measure the outer diameter. These are the numbers you're looking for in the tool (obvious as it sounds, but yea, that's it). However, there are bb nuts where one side fits multiple different types of bb cups - basically multiple interface types stacked like a staircase from bigger to smaller. These are no good unless the interface you need is the outermost (even then, I'd take rather not use these), so look out for that.

Now, for the tricky part. With that kind of bb cup, you have maybe 2 mm depth for engagement between bb cup and tool. This is, like, nothing when trying to apply 30-40 Nm with a 30 cm lever. Therefore:
1) If there is, I'd get a steel nut - I am saying this as most of these tools are the same softish aluminium as the bb cups which means that even with the slightest of slips both sides will give and you can easily round both the cup and the tool in a flash (ask me how I know). With a harder tool (insert "tool" joke here), you have just ever-so-slightly better odds.
2) If the nut's open end is even slightly rounded or chamfered on the inside (which is often the case), I'd grind it flat to give the teeth proper edges. I hope that makes sense to you(?)
3) Grease threads!
4) Secure the frame well (it should not be able to move anywhere) and press the tool firmly onto the cup when applying force. Alternatively, there are contraptions to secure bb tools to the cup/shell (basically a threaded rod with a thrust bearing and some bits), but I have yet to see one for t47.

Now, this might sound way over the top, I mean, how hard can it be, right ...

I used this tool, worked ok, but requires a lot of care to torque up to prevent slipping: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006581207359.html

I've seen this tool that may work better, but I've no experience with it: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006215785806.html

I had not seen this one. A bit more pricey, but for my next internal T47 (hypothetically speaking), I would definitely go with something like this.

You can't have bearing press tool for T47 BB because T47 is threaded bottom bracket. With that said, I have used this tool with good success -

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0D5GSDHVS

It might be available on Aliexpress and works on almost every bottom bracket. It's not the strongest or hardest material but for a home mechanic it's good enough.

To avoid scarring on the bottom bracket I put a thin cloth on it and then force the tool on it. Then rotate.

What?! Nobody tries to press in a threaded bb cup. There are tools to keep bb nuts from disengaging. Hsaus even posted a link of a simpler version of it.

That is exactly what I saying. Your earlier reply says tool with thrust bearing with some bits - that sounded similar to BB30 / headset press tools and I was replying to it.

Thanks for all the replies and explanations! Concerning the BB - I would be willing to buy a new one if that is easier to install. Any suggestions?

Thanx, Flavio

Just be careful when installing, that's all. Internal T47 bottom brackets look pretty much all like that (with the thin shoulder being the only bit the tool can grab to). And you cannot just use one with external bearings as this would mess up the width (which is the reason you got the one you got in the first place, I would assume).

Measure the width of the BB shell on your bike. If it's 68 or 73mm you need outboard bearing T47.

If your BB shell is 86 or larger mm then you need inboard bearing T47.

Token Ninja, Wheels Manufacturing etc make both variants. You need to select the correct type per your frame. On Aliexpress, Kactus brand has good reviews if you want to buy from there.
