First frameset recommendation price/value
« on: November 16, 2024, 03:13:31 PM »
Hi all,
I'm reading this forum from a while but cannot decide:
What I'm looking for: something cool looking areo with good reviews and durability below +-700$ (something like elves falath evo but cheaper  ;D)

I'm considering:
-Velobuild 268 (checked Patrick videos)
-Hygge model S
-Spcycle r065 (looks perfect but lack of reviews)
-Any other recomendations are welcome (with additional paint option)

I already have shimano r7020 groupset for the build.

Actually using Alu CX frame from local company with elite wheels so any carbon frame should be great improvement.

Thanks for any replies and thoughts.

If you have a bike that seems to be a good fit I'd say to use it as a starting point and try to compare some geos using ,,Bike Insights,, website.
It helped me before and now to pick my 90% chiner gravel ;)
DH-Devinci Wilson carbon 2013 RC,
Enduro-Santa Cruz Nomad CC v4,
XC-Cannondale Scalpel Carbon 2023
and now tourist-Carbon GR201(some may call it a gravel even)

Yeah, i've checked geometry geeks and other sites with additional stem/bar calculators to get closest effective reach and stack of desired frames.

I can only recommend my long teng 268. It's not the newest, not the lightest, but it is cheap, and i'm so incredibly pleased with it.
Bear in mind that velobuild is a broker, while long teng is a factory, for example. So value wise, the broker has to eat, and so does the factory. if you go factory direct, you trim a layer of fat.
I've put over 8k km on it, i'm faster on the flat and downhill than pretty much everyone i know, and i ride with ex national champions. And to be clear, it's not me, it's the bike. It's just easy to get to 40kmh, and to stay there, with a bit of effort. With older bikes, that would have meant a vo2max effort.
Now obviously i'm not saying it's magical, but i'm saying that if you build it right, it can be fast AF.
Fast on the flat. And nowhere else.

TBH mentioned framesets are available on AliX platform, where of course i know exactly the price (i'm little lazy with sending emails to each manufacturer and mostly avoid places where price isn't provided), and have additional promo codes like 11.11 or the upcoming Black Friday sale.
