Lightcarbon: LCR018-D (endurance all-road)

Hi everyone,

Is anyone running an LCR018-D frame with an Ultegra 12v (R8100) groupset?
I’m getting  vibrations (rumbling) when pedaling under tension on the smallest cogs. It’s also especially noticeable on my direct-drive trainer.

My drivetrain is brand new and perfectly indexed. Has anyone noticed a similar resonance or chainline issue with this specific frame combo, or is it just my setup?

It’s nothing to do with the frame or the group set, so it’s your set up.

Possibly chainline related but you don’t mention if it’s in all gears. Could be chain length ( too short )

For what it’s worth - 12 speed Ultegra should be one of the smoothest running systems when installed correctly.

Everything is brand new (chain, cassette, deraileur etc), it’s a R8150 Di2 groupset with a Magene P515 powermeter (ultegra chainring, not the magene one).

It only happen on the 3 smallest cogs, I’ve read that it might be chordal action.

Another thing : I’m not using any spacers for the BB because I don’t have any gap/movement, but could it be that ?

I know nothing about Magene. See if they have a different offset- Q factor to shimano.

As a basic step, I assume you degreased the factory goo from the chain ?

Yes you should check it, maybe by putting the bike on a stand and slowly rotating the wheel to see whether the chain “meshes” properly with the gears of the cassette or the rear derailleur, and if needed index it correctly. I had the same problem with the ZTTO cassette https://it.aliexpress.com/item/1005007857322027.html, now solved.

Yes, that's exactly what I did, I put it on a workstand and indexed it properly. I really think it's chordal action, but I'd be surprised if I'm the only one experiencing this with this specific setup.
The derailleur and the cassette are well aligned. When the chain runs, it goes smoothly from the chainring —> derailleur —> cassette without any weird rubbing or anything. Where it actually rubs is at the exit of the cassette, when the chain returns to the chainring: that's why I suspect chordal action.
Because of this, I'd like to know if it's dangerous to add spacers, considering my crankset currently has absolutely zero left/right play without them.

I have the same setup and haven't had anything you'd describe. What did happen was the bolt that holds the whole crankset together became undone which obviously affects the front mech and shifting. even then everything ran smooth on the rear cassette. could it be that your chain is too long and in the smallest cogs you lose derailleur tension?

Did you use the bolts that come with the Magene p515 or did you keep the default ultegra chainring bolts ?

The bolts that came with the P515 did not fit for me and i used the Shimano Chainbolts (Ultegra & Dura Ace Chainring Bolts) as far as i can remember. I put the cassette straight from the packaging onto the hub.

Didnt use any spacers. Running a 11-34/52-36. Could there be a spacer missing in the cassette?

I’ve looked shimano guide for the cassette and nothing is missing, I’ll take a video and upload it, it might just be in my head.
