Chinertown Strava Group?
« on: June 17, 2015, 06:01:08 AM »
Hi Everyone

I know that quite many on this site uses Strava. So I thought if we should have a Strava Chinertown club. It would be fun to check each others rides out. So what do you guys think about the idea?

What ? You want us all to come naked, while now we are comfortably leaving behind our anonymous nick names... :)

I would join, but I gave up on GPS tracking some time ago. My phone always loses GPS signal in a forest and catches it back only when I stop. It's assisted GPS (most phones have this).

What do you use to track yourselves? A phone works for you or do you have Garmin's or other GPS cyclo computers?

First I used a Garmin Edge 810, now I'm using the Garmin Edge 1000.
The 810 sometimes loses the GPS in the forest. The 1000 doesn't.

Couple of years ago, when starting with mountain biking, I used my phone. But it drained the battery, it was not accurate and I wanted to plan my rides, so I needed navigation.

Joined.

I just use my phone, Samsung S5, which works well and has good battery life.  My old S3 would lose gps and run down the battery.  I tried a Garmin 200 but it cut off too many corners in twisty singletrack riding.

I joined too, and use an iPhone 6.

Getting the 20% battery warning after about 4:30h
But only with 4G off. Wifi off. And all useless apps off too.
For longer rides, I use a Verbatim Power Pack 3500mAh that gives a 175% charge.

To just record a ride, I use Strava's app.

And if I need navigation: ViewRanger.com that has offline maps.
It records the ride too, as a GPX file, you can then import in Strava.

I just use my Nexus 6. So far it seems accurate. I just barely started tracking every detail of my ride on Strava so we will see how it works.

Garmin Forerunner 305. When I forget it I use my S4.
