what to build
« on: September 11, 2015, 09:00:55 PM »
I'm trying to figure out what I want to build. 29er or a 27.5..... Budget won't let me have both. But will be full suspension. I mainly ride single trail, woods and trails now. But wouldn't mind doing some beginer down hill. Figuring around a 120-140mm travel would be good. Just not sure which to build.

I'm 5'6", and currently ride a 29er hard tail with 100mm for travel.

. Started cheap cause wife wasn't sure I'd stick with it. And now her and both kids ride.

Well judging by the views, I'm not the only one wondering about this...

Definitely not. Probably one of the most asked questions, and kinda tough to answer sometimes, but in your case since you said you might want to get into some light downhill riding I think I'd go with the 27.5.

The question is if there;s a chiner frame with as much travel as your looking for? If I'm not mistaken, I think most of the chiner frames have about 100mm of travel. I'm not the most well versed in that so I could be wrong, but thought it was worth pointing out.

Thanks for the info. If I remember right from read the chiner frames are 100-120mm travel. And being this is all new ground for me. Only been into Mountain biking about 5 mounths(I'm 39years old). I'm asking questions before I build.

The CS/IP/FM-036 29er has 110mm of travel, the Carbonality Titan 27.5er has 140mm of travel.  Carbonality also has a new Titan 29er which has 130mm of travel.

Nick - we may be in a similar situation.  I rode a lot 20 years ago, then picked up the bug again about 4 years ago.  I bought an old Specialized 26er off Craigslist at that time.  I then dove in and built up a 29er HT last year.

All things considered, I personally wish I built up a 27.5.  The jump in handling from the 26er to the 29er was drastic for my novice skills.  This is based on the trails I ride as well - you should take that into account.

That I am. I dove in head first with out much research. And went 29er cause of all the rave. And now wanting FS and the 27.5s seem to fit both my size and riding style better.

Who has the best bang for buck in both 27.5 and 29er FS?

I've been riding my HT 29er alot lately and still not completely fixed on a 27.5er build yet.
