Yoeleo R11 - di2 "budget" build
« on: May 09, 2021, 02:45:06 PM »
Finally! After about 6 months of planning and waiting, today I finally got to take my R11 for a short spin. Feels great! Still waiting for a di2 cable, a grommet for the RD cable exit, and some flatmount bolts before I can tape the handlebars and go on a longer ride. In the meantime, here's my full build spec. (Most of these parts were ordered in Dec 2020.)

I really wanted to try Di2 (a 900 CHF upgrade over plain 105 in my case), but I set a goal of minimizing the budget, so it's mostly 105 spec otherwise. Notably, cranks were unavailable, so I decided to try the CVR Hardrock ones. One worry is that the ZTTO thread together BB is 94mm wide from bearing seal to bearing seal (a Shimano BB86 BB is 92mm, and a BSA68 one is 90mm). This means there's about 5mm of the crank's spline interface that's not mated to the spindle, because the latter is too short. The bolts on the NDS crank do tighten onto the spindle, so I'm hoping it's ok.

The other gotcha was that the 2021 frame does not have a mounting hole for the Di2 RS910 junction in the downtube, unlike the 2020 one shown in the photos. I had to improvise a bit with my cable lengths, and ended up wedging my WU111 (BT junction) in the handlebars...  ::)  Otherwise, I'm happy with Yoeleo: it took exactly 3 months from my order on Dec 23 to shipment on Mar 23, and another 2 weeks to Switzerland using EMS Express. (I paid with Transferwise, btw -- the wire transfer took only a day to arrive.)

Uncut, the seatpost is 390mm, which means the BB center to saddle rail ranges from 655mm - 790mm (minimum insertion: 100mm, max insertion into frame: 235mm, which is 255mm above center of BB). My saddle height is about 700mm and my saddle has a stack height of 50mm, so I ended up shortening the seatpost to 350mm to avoid bottoming out.

The first section details everything that came in the box with the frame.

Ready to ride, the bike weighs 8.4kg and the total cost (including all taxes, shipping etc) was a bit under 3300 CHF.

Happy to answer questions! I'll definitely follow up once I get some more serious kms on the bike -- super excited!

How is the crank holding up? I'm looking for parts for a build and Tempted to go for a 105 setup mechanical for the time being.
Do the arms clear the frame well?

I have only ridden 20 km so far, but no issues. My cranks are 170mm 50-34. They clear the frame no issue. Pics attached. Will update the thread once I have some time for some more serious riding!

You said that it took nearly 3 months from order to delivery confirmation. Can you elaborate please. I am going on over 3 months and all I get are new excuses as to why it hasn't shipped yet. It seems unbelievable to me that each time I ask for a status update it's a new excuse or delay after they already told me that it would only be another 3 days or two weeks, even after they tell me the frame is finished and ready.

Thanks.

Yeah, it was basically the same for me. I checked in with them every two-four weeks, but in the end that was kind of pointless, as I'm not super convinced their progress update each time was, erm, grounded in reality.

My timeline:
- Dec 23: Order confirmed
- Jan 25: Said to be in painting
- Feb 4: Said to be in painting (supposedly ready to ship late Feb)
- Mar 23 they sent me a tracking number. Then that tracking didn't update much, until two weeks later it was here!

tl;dr: yeah, their updates are annoying when you've been waiting this long, but the frame will be at your door one day!

Thanks for sharing your experience. I agree with you, their updates seem to be pure fabrications for the sake of covering for delays that are unwilling to reveal. I find it unbelievable that they make a statement of "shipped in 3 days", but then fail again to ship or follow-on with another delay/excuse.

I'm leaning towards starting my paypal request for refund at this point. They are doing a piss poor job with developing confidence in their sales process and customer service. Thanks again.

I understand your frustration, but I suggest waiting a little bit longer. They are basically a reseller at the mercy of the factory. You're still getting a good deal compared to how much it would cost from a brand (and even time-wise, you're unlikely to get any big brand frames this year).

There seems to be a significant increase in demand for open mold frames as well, during this COVID cycling boom. My most recent Carbonda order also has a significant delay. It's been already two months since I've placed my order, and the frame is still not ready yet.

Yoeleo may indeed just be trying to dance around the fact that they use open molds as well, and they're having a hard time getting their orders fulfilled.

Yes exactly. It is so typical, when things go not as planned, they stay mute.
Until they have a better news.
Spamming them is useless, and probably offensive.
Patience is the only option.

I think it is also important to understand the differences in business culture between China and the western world. There is a bigger gap than one might think.

In china everything is about saving face for the employees involved. If you corner them to give an answer their culture 'tells them' to be vague and evasive.

Here is some tips:

The comments about Chinese business culture is interesting. That said, I think that it's equally fair that the ones on the receiving end of no updates or, worse yet, false updates are also offended. Trying to save face in these kinds of scenarios by making patently false statements completely backfires as all you've actually gained is a bad reputation.

Patience is a fine option when you're originally told 30-45 days. Since it's coming from overseas that does seem reasonable. When you approach the 90+ day range with repeated +3 day excuses with statements like, "your frame is ready" patience runs thin.

I will give them credit for one thing. Their social media presence, Youtube videos, and pricing strategy did lure me to believe that they would be a tighter outfit than some of the other brands in the region.

Let's see how this all plays out.

I don't remember someone not receiving what they bought.
Statistically you could stop worrying right now ;)

I waited about 9 months for my FM936.
Each month there was a different excuse.

And we know each other for years, I've bought them dozens of frames, and will continue.
Generally it is smooth, and goes as planned.
But sometimes not, and being angry would be counterproductive.
