jstrawks' Carbonda CFR-1056 build thread
« on: September 11, 2021, 12:20:58 PM »
I'm going to document my build.

Here are some weights, and a shot of the frame on the build stand.

This will be a slow build because my groupset is on back order till Christmas, my wheels and tires haven't arrived, and I may not decide on a stem length till the last.

With wireless shifting, I'd like to find the pest possible plugs to replace these (suggestions are welcomed):

The oval one is the difficult one..

I've been able to source a cube oval grommet, it is too short by 2mm. Other then that: https://www.orbea.com/ro-en/gear/spare-parts/cat/kit-topes-cuadro-emx-24 might work, but have not found it in a store (yet).

My FSA headset and Vision stem arrived today. I didn't realize the stem came with one 10mm spacer, one 5mm spacer, and the SMR to ACR adapter. I wasted four bucks buying one of those adapters. The stem comes with a compression cap that matches the contours of the stem.

UPDATE: I found another 10mm spacer in the box!

Since I won't have my groupset, including brake hoses for three months, I just did a proof of concept for internal routing with my chosen bars, stem, spacers and headset using aquarium air tubing. It all works a treat.

My Farsports wheels arrived. The front is 719g. The rear is 820g.

This is as far as the build progresses until the groupset becomes available.

Mind sharing the total cost with everyone?

I believe it will come in just under $4k. When it's done I'll post all the details, including weights.

My spreadsheet lists the vendors. You'd have to look up the websites.

Everything is here except the rear mech, battery, charger, levers, brakes and rotors.

Which color is this? It is amazing!
I also want to build up a red CFR 1056, just cannot decide which red tone I should go for, so far I am leaning towards RAL 3001 signal red.
I am planning with Shimano 105. Based on your experice, could I go for the cockpit offerey by Carbonda and do internal routing? Meaning all 4 cables?
thanks!

I didn't use Carbonda's cockpit,  so I can't comment on routing through it.

The color is RAL 3028 Pure Red.
