VBR-177 Derailleur Hanger Q
« on: July 17, 2022, 10:45:23 AM »
Hello all -

I've built my VBR-177 and have put about 100km / 600 miles on it. Loving it so far, BUT I am having an issue with the rear hanger.

The 177 has a two-piece hanger / collar situation. It's two pieces, and is held together with a single stainless bolt. This bolt regularly loosens, leading to a creak and eventually the axle coming out of the frame. I've greased it an reseated, and it still came apart.
I've just now put some thread-locker on the screw.

I've included a crude diagram.

So, three questions:

1. Anyone else have and solve this?

2. I'm using the stock thru-axle. Is it threaded through as much as it should be?

3. Mechanically speaking, does this not happen?

Of course you should use Loctite on that screw! Blue 243 should do the job

Thanks - I've done that and will report back soon!

Anyone else have any responses to the other Qs?

The t-a looks a bit short.

I've also discussed this with a mechanical engineer friends (who builds bikes) - and he has the same suspicions as I do: that this setup does not anchor the TA to the drive-side of the frame, save for that one little tiny screw.

But: I've emailed Chris at Velobuild. Will let you know.
