My newest N+1 infatuation is mini-velo bikes. Has anyone encountered an inexpensive Chinese frame? Thanks in advance  8)

Almost spooky because I started looking into it recently too. So far my research has led me to a brand called Silverock and their mini model called Steam which is reasonably priced. They also have carbon frame but that's steeply priced. I wish someone had a copy of Cannondale Hooligan - that's my holy grail of mini velos. I might just wait for one to pop up used on Craigslist and jump on it.

Almost spooky? Definitely spooky. I had to do a double take because I just learned about mini velo bikes the other day and had been googling them.

I found one for $300 from Bikes direct, I think. I need one like I need a hole in my head, but I can't shake the idea.

do you guys happen to hang around r/xbiking , then someone suddenly posted minivelo thread there few days back?
LOL i saw that thread too ;D

/though i have been looking on it few months back, and came to similar result as cb.
though theres a few full bike single speed flipflop minivelos too, but with all kitted dodgy parts borderline looks-like-bicycle-object for like sgd300. not sure if good idea to start with those, n replace some parts with better ones

I've seen some builds from Japan that just use standard frames and 20" wheels. No need for a custom frame. One was even on an S-Works MTB frame converted to a push bike!  ;D

Fast on the flat. And nowhere else.

Ive had a design ive been slowly working on in CAD for the better part of a year. My goal is to make one that fits in a suitcase like Firefly did, but with more attachments for cargo and hopefully full drop bars. Crust also showed a similar prototype they called the “Stupid Tourist”

The plan is to use a Ritchey Breakaway style connector up top with a Santana Z coupler down below. I have also need to figure out what I am going to use between EKAR + a chinese carbon crank and a dynamo hub or an apex AXS group and battery lights. I am leaning towards the latter honestly, but its also not a priority to have built since I have no plans unique to this bike

They’re a funny breed of bike haha. Smaller, more portable than a regular size bike. Quicker acceleration because of the 20 inchers. Most ride very similarly to regular bikes but better than Bromptons. They look cute and fit better in an apartment. But I wouldnt use one as my only bice.

I’m in!! Would you make the frame or send it to a Ti manufacturer?

I am fully invested in this now. A great winter project. I found my holy grail literally 2 days after this thread came up so thanks for starting it! I see fair bit of action on Reddit for mini velos but not here. Definitely has potential.
Would be glad if people posted their builds for ideas.

I have wanted a mini velo ever since I got dropped by a guy riding one. I was on a Dogma F and the guy lapped me easily doing 42+kph. Stijn cycles Peg is very interesting but a little pricey option.

This is the exact reason I want a mini velo. I mean, there aren't a lot of people that I'd be able to drop, but the few that I do would damn well remember the time they got dropped by that fat guy on the weird, tiny wheeled bike. lol
