Generic carbon fork by various manufacturers / brands
« on: November 29, 2024, 09:31:36 PM »
Hoping for opinions.

I've found a fork that suits the specs that I'm after, however this fork is sold under a number of brands - from OG-EVKIN, SpCycle, Winow as well as no-names. Drawing name "29F-2.8-110" - PDF attached.

Do these brands manufacture in-house based on this design or just rebrand it?

Which brand would you pick?

Thanks :)

PS: I'd be happy to go for "better" offerings from Tandell or LightCarbon but their specs differ from what I'm after - need a 60mm crown base OD and their forks are 56, meaning the head tube cone would overhang the base of the crown base. I know this is only aesthetics but it'd look so wrong...

Edit - not just aesthetics, stock fork offset is 42, while Tandell and LightCarbon are 49!

I have an SP cycles fork on my 29er, never abused it to speak of, it's still going strong.
Quality seems good, no complaints.

Thanks, is it their SP-MF01?

Do their brake mounts line up / machined flat or did you have to tweak these?

Also - is the inside of the steerer reamed for compression plug?

Appreciate your input, about to order - $180 AUD delivered including local taxes.

Think I got the 06, but essentially the same.
Brakes were fine and plug fitted straight in for me :-)

Talking to the seller, it is a generic mould but they manufacture in-house. He also claims they haven't had catastrophic failures with this fork - there is hope  :)

How does it ride? Weird question, I know, but my reason for going rigid (from Judy Silver air) is that I mostly ride tarmac and parks - so nothing extreme. Judy weighs 2.35kg and I'm not sure if I "need" it...

That's good news :-)
Can't describe how it rides really, would just say give it a go, you'll always be wondering otherwise lol. I enjoy it, but grew up riding rigid.
My other bike is a full sus monster truck, so it provides a bit of yin Yan balance to life.

I've bought a couple carbon forks in the past from Ali. All needed their disc brake mounts to be faced but I work in a bike-shop and have access to the tools to fix this. I thin koverall quality was low, particularly on my Trifox one but it was light. Another no-name one split randomly along the steerer whilst running less torque than seller recommended. However, once setup, they all worked fine in my opinion. I'd double check facing of the brake mounts and possibly expect to very gently sand down the base of the steerer tube as these are often not even or smooth as you' d expect.

Currently I have a Selcof 29er carbon fork but the A2C is too much but i adjusted using a different stem. I am currently enquiring about getting a Massi carbon fork. 480mm A2C is perfect for me, it is light and looks good but the price is quite different from AliX specials.

I'm looking at SP Cycle SP-MF01 in particular, wonder if it'd be "better" than similar Chinese offerings...

At some point you're either going to have to buy one and try it or give up, because all the answers people give you will only go so far I'm afraid.
Your other option is to buy a branded fork from your lbs.
