Lexon compression ring?
« on: March 10, 2025, 10:55:21 PM »
I feel like this is probably a really dumb question, but I just got a new gravel bar from Lexon.  It came with a normal metal compression ring shaped like a C, this is what I'm familiar with from all previous work on my bikes.  However, it also came with this weird looking thing that maybe is a different type of plastic compression ring?  It's on the Aliexpress page as a "cable guide" but definitely does not fit anywhere but where the compression ring would go.

Am I crazy, does this serve some other purpose?  If I'm right, which one would be better to use?   I don't want to cut brake hoses to put the new top cap on yet, so I haven't been able to test on the bike, but the metal one sits a little bit deeper if I put it on top of a bearing.

(Also, I really don't understand the point of breakaway spacers that don't open at the cable/hose section and only open at the fork part, but that's a whole other thing.)

I have the lexon vero bar that also came with these.
The C ring is for the smaller headset cap for external cable routing, and the round plastic ring is the full integrated cables.
The plastic ring is the compression ring, just for internal.
You will see there is a little hole in the plastic ring, that will fit with the knob/pin on the integrated headset cap.

Thanks for the reply, ended up using the C shaped one even for my internally routed brake hoses (with wireless derailleurs) anyway though.

The plastic one ended up giving me a 5mm gap between the frame and the cap, no matter how tightly I tried to preload it.  The C shaped one works fine with my internal hoses.

They both for internal cable routing. The c ring is made from metal so stronger but theses comes often with wider tolerances around the fork. So it’s possible that it can move back and forth.
