11-36 Cassette on Par with Shimano/Sunrace
« on: March 26, 2025, 07:40:39 AM »
Looking for an 11-Speed 11-36 cassette. Was just going to go with Sunrace, but figured I'd check here first, mostly because the idea of having more cogs (all cogs?) on the spider sounds cool and I like needing out on gear.

That said, the gravel season is coming up so I don't want to mess around with anything with poor quality control or shifting that is going to take a bunch of work to get just right.

Is there anything that's going to shift as good as Sunrace? Or should I stick with what I know?

(My experience with 11 Speed MTB cassettes is that I can't tell a difference between Shimano and Sunrace)

Sunrace/Sunshine are good budget options. If you are happy with them, I don't see any issue why you shouldn't get another one. They are a bit on the heavy side though, which is expected with a budget cassette.

ZTTO and Goldix have also been well received. They are good brands if you are looking for ultra-light cassettes. Unfortunately, they only make 11-34T 11s in the all-steel configuration. The only 11-36T all-steel I know of is a 12s. There are 11-36T options for 11s but they are a steel-aluminium mix. Since you mentioned gravel, I assume you hit some steep climbs as well and I would not use anything but an all-steel version if you need to put some torque into the cassette.

Goldix Ultralight 11s 11-34T ~243g https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005006472254930.html
Slow on the climb. And everywhere else.

ZTTO recently released an 11-36t all-steel cassette. If I was running mechanical 105 R7100 or GRX 12 speed 2x shifters, this would be a massive weight reduction compared to all the other 11-36t cassettes on the market.

I've got 2 SunRace 11-36 cassettes that have been great and am setting up a second wheelset soon and went to grab another and the price on the model I have has doubled since my last order so some good options would be great to find.

I totally forgot about the Spedao 10-36t 11 speed cassette. If you have the option to switch out to an XD freehub, this is probably your best bet if you have an 11 speed groupset.

I have the Spedao one, and unfortunately it skips on the smallest 3 cogs.

What chain are you using? I found switching to SRAM PC11xx 11 speed chains work better on the XD Spedao 11 speed cassettes. In fact I was having terrible skipping on the Spedao 10-42t cassette using Shimano, but I switched to the SRAM chain and it fixed my issue. Also I'm having better luck using KMC X11/12 chains on ZTTO/Goldix lightweight all-steel cassettes.

That's the same link I posted above - unfortunately, only the 12s is 36T. The 11s version is 34T only.

That 12 speed 11-36t is new. It was only listed during the recent anniversary sale. Actually my favorite 11-36t cassette was the Shimano XT 10 speed 11-36t cassette. Shifts like butter and fairly lightweight (like 335g). If I was running Wheeltop EDS TX, I'd run that cassette in 10 speed mode and call it a day. For gravel, I'm more concerned about my low gearing over the small cog high gears.

If you get a ZTTO check the rivets/screws on the back. My 11-36 came with loose screws which have been changed to rivets on newer versions. Put loctite if yours has screws

I know, I was the one posting the link in the "interesting finds thread"  ;D

I just mentioned the speeds because OP was specifically asking for a 11s. And for 11s I don't know any "good" 11-36T ultra-lights cassettes unfortunately ...
