Experience with TT-X8?
« on: March 31, 2025, 11:09:20 AM »
Hi Folks,

does anyone have experience with this frame? I know it's older, but I would still like to know if it's any good. I haven't found any information in the forum.

I would like to replace my old rim brake aluminum frame (the frame is one size too big for me) with a carbon frame to bridge the time while I build up a disc frame. The disc frame will be assembled with more expensive components, which I will buy second hand over the year.

Since the frame will be available tomorrow at AliX at a reasonable price (~350€ including shipping) I am really thinking about buying it. Stem, handlebars, wheels and the Shimano Ultegra R8000 groupset should be able to be taken over 1 to 1 (except for the required direct mount brakes). So is it a no brainer?

Is this perhaps an open mold frame that another supplier also uses, for which there is experience? Any experiences would be appreciated

I have that frame but can't recommend it - shoddy manufacturing, poor tolerances, wonky geometry (at least in my size), a pain to assemble; the seat post and the rear brakes in particular are very poor. Having said that, I was able to build up the bike and it rides okay (nothing spectacular, merely acceptable).

Unfortunately, I don't have any recommendations.

Thank you, that is valuable information for me. Then I'd better not buy the frame and look around for an alternative.

VB is still liquidating this very popular model with users on this forum:
https://www.velobuild.com/products/2022-vb-r-218-carbon-fiber-aero-road-frame-v-brake?VariantsId=11931

XS / XXS only, idk the size you need.
Fast on the flat. And nowhere else.

Yes, that was option 2. I've already bought it... :D

nice! I almost bought one for a friend, but she wanted discs.
The one thing to pay attention on that one is the seat post clamp area. It tends to crack. People on here have had luck ghetto fixing it a small carbon repair kit.

Yes, I went through the v-br-218 topic almost completely before I bought it. I “calculated” the risk into the build and accepted it. The rim brake frame will be used indoors next year.

I'm from Hamburg, so I'll only be riding on the flat and only on good roads. I hope the frame can take it :D.

I would also like to try painting it myself and see the frame as a “test object” for my next disc project. I wouldn't be too sad if a complex paint job at home doesn't work out. Then I'll just paint it all black, I've managed that before.
