BB Removal Help: bearings knocked off but BB shell remained
« on: April 27, 2025, 05:29:20 PM »
This is a 29er hardtail MTB frame I bought from SP Cycle from 2018. Works great over the years. Now the bearings are a little bit not smooth so I am trying to replace them. Issue is, I used the BB92 BB removal tool and knocked off the bearings themselves. The BB shell is still with the frame. Now what do I do? How do I remove the BB shell like this?

Only replace the bearings now that they are both out. Looks like those are 6806, pretty easy to find.

Thank you all for the replies! I'm clear now. Really appreciate!
I just measured the bearing sizes and ordered new ones.
My original confusion was that the original bearing was to fit the SRAM crank which is 24mm diameter on one side and 22mm on the other.  But I am going to change the crank to 24mm all the way so I just ordered two 37mm OD x 24mm ID x 7mm standard bearings. $21 + tax from Amazon. Too bad we don't have AliEx cheap pricing any more, I'm sure I can find the same thing on AliEx for like $2 up until last week.

You have 2 options

1-replace the bearing and let the shell in the frame

2-remove the shell, too with something like this:

Did the bottom bracket make any nasty "creaking" noises before you removed the bearings?
YES > option 2
NO > option 1

My original confusion was that the original bearing was to fit the SRAM crank which is 24mm diameter on one side and 22mm on the other.

On some bearings for 22mm diameter, the bearing remains the same size as 24 but is reduced down to 22mm using a reducer adapter - you can hammer that out from old bearing and insert into new one. Just in case. Yours does look like that. Though, not a problem now that you are going 24mm route. Good luck!

I suggest to let the bearing in the freezer for at least 10minutes so you can easily install straight in the shell using just your hands
