Re: Velo Build R-099 Build
Also intending to run 60mm of spacers below the stem.  More than VB's recommended 40mm.  I guess best option is to use Colnago's 100mm expander in this case to be safe?  Anything I should be aware of?

Did you order the extra spacers from VB? How much did they cost?
I think 60mm spacers should be fine. I have seen Giant Propels and Orbeas come from the factory with about similar or more spacers so the rider can adjust stack based on their own bike fit.

Hope the image for 099 clamp specs attached are useful.
I'll be changing my clamp bolt also.

The bottle cage bolts are the generic once. The cap of the bolt will depend on the design/space around your bottle cage screw holes.

Re: L-TWOO RX 2x12 road groupset Wheel Top just dropped this 46 minute long video explaining their MTB groupset and are currently recruiting beta testers for their road groupset.

I'll briefly summarise some of the more interesting points:

Road groupset beta testers are asked to prepare bikes with "11 speeds or more," meaning that the road groupset will support both 11 and 12 speeds like the MTB.

The MTB groupset will support 11 and 12 speed cassettes from SRAM and Shimano via software presets controlled on the companion app.

The MTB groupsets you saw listed for sale earlier this year were actually pre-production units offloaded by beta testers.

Wheel Top's road brifters will work with the MTB rear derailleur for gravel mullet setups.

The MTB rear derailleur uses an 800mAh battery (47.5g) with a slimmer 400mAh optional battery coming in the future. For reference, the SRAM battery is 300mAh and weighs 25g.

They'll release a downhill version of the MTB rear derailleur with a shorter cage (75mm vs 93mm).

There'll be a decked out version of the MTB rear derailleur with black and gold pulleys (unclear if OSPW or not).

The MTB derailleur can shift through all twelve cogs positions (NOT changing gears) in as little as 1.8 seconds. Wheel Top aren't happy with this as they aren't good enough numbers for a road groupset.

Wheel Top's road brifters will be mechanical. Hydraulic is not mentioned.

The road groupset is on target to be released by year end.

In other news, Hillhouse Capital (leading private equity firm) invested in L-TWOO back in February 2021.

Nothing new from Sensah.

Re: L-TWOO RX 2x12 road groupset
Sounds pretty positive from the ecosystem perspective with everything being compatible and working together - assuming it does work.

I think a hydraulic road version is inevitable though, and soon, given how much more difficult cable actuated brake (and shifter) routing has become, and the rapidly diminishing availability of rim brake frames.

@StiffWeenies - is there any news on what might be the final retail price? Or how it might be priced on AliExpress? Presumably quite a bit cheaper than those beta units.

MTB groupset (shifter, derailleur, charger, 2x batteries) is 2300 RMB. They’ll also bundle it with their own crankset and the SRoad 10-50T cassette.

Estimates for the Road groupset (brifters & derailleurs) are all over the place. Some say 3K-3.5K, others 4K and up

Keep in mind that Ali prices are typically 10-15% more than Taobao, not to mention shipping and duties

Re: Velobuild GF-002 Just finished up building my new GF-002 frame. Almost all parts except for the bars/stem were transferred over from my GF-001.

Aside from a few stumbling blocks that were on me, the build was smooth. Frame and separate bar/stem combo from VB have been great and I'm happy with everything so far.

Learnings:

1. No cabling exposed with separate VB bar/stem: This bar/stem combo has fully integrated cabling with no exposed cabling at all (unless you don't want internal cabling and route on the outside of the bars). Unlike the integrated bars where the cables/wires poke out under the stem before going down the fork. This is only an issue if you're running an external Di2 junction box like I am as you normally place it under the stem where you have access to the wires being exposed, can connect the junction box and then the wires go down the fork. This is how I have my VB-R-168 set up.

Considered getting an internal junction box to mount to the opening in the top of the downtube, however I wasn't able to source one easily (aka I was too cheap and didn't find a deal I liked, plus needed another junction and extra wire). Someone suggested I just drill a hole in the stem and that's what I did! Solution worked perfectly and I don't have any concerns with the integrity of the stem provided how small the hole is and how thick the carbon in that area is. Photo below.

2. Smallest chainring for the GF-002 is 46T: I tried mounting my regular compact Shimano 2x crankset 50/34 and the small chainring was pressed hard against the chainstay with no room to move. Not sure if my choice of BB made a difference but I have a Wheels Manufacturing BB386EVO. I ended up getting some 24mm spacers for the crankset shaft to push out the crank and 3mm worth of spacers did the trick. Found out after from VB about the 46T chainring minimum.

A few things I appreciate having that my GF-001 didn't are:

- Fender eyelets in the fork
- Additional bottle/bag mounts on the side of the fork and under the downtube
- Round seatpost

Really happy with how the paint job turned out. I wasn't sure about their ability to blend the two colors but they did a good job with the transition. Decals were made locally and splatter is just some left over plasti-dip splattered by moi.

The newly revised slightly taller C ring for the headset seems to be making a difference to prevent the play issue some were experiencing with the separate bar/stem option. Overall happy with how it turned out.

Re: L-TWOO RX 2x12 road groupset The first to road hydraulic braking isn’t Sensah or Wheel Top but L-TWOO!

SRAM hood shape, Campy style shifting and Shimano model name…but only compatible with RXT 2x13 derailleurs and has an unorthodox way of mounting callipers

Hopefully they'll also make 2x11 and 2x12 versions for R9/Shimano and RX compatibility

custom made direct mount derailleur hanger for velobuild frame im currently in contact with a cnc machinist who has experience in producing direct mount derailleur hangers to have some made for my vb-r-168 and im wandering if anyone else would be interested as i would have to reach a minimum order quantity(still under negotiation)

seems like quite a few open mould frames are using the same derailleur hangers too

i have attached images of my derailleur hanger that i'll be using as reference and some that the machinist has made in the past. im planning to have it designed similar to one of those. feel free to let me know if you have any suggestions!

i am still negotiating and calculating the costs but i am estimating they could end up being around $40 shipped

Re: custom made direct mount derailleur hanger for velobuild frame
Remind me again the benefits of a direct mount hanger.

so a direct mount hanger is the derailleur hanger + B-link together in one piece. so supposedly it creates a stiffer linkage between the frame and derailleur which results in more precise shifting. Making it one piece will save some weight too

also they provides more room to remove and replace the rear wheel, enabling faster and easier rear wheel changes

and they look a bit cooler  8)

I believe the hanger is the same for the 099. If so, I'm in
i think so too. i will confirm with chris

Interested! Especially if they could be made in accent colors
should be able to but it may cost extra. which colour did you want? send me a reference image and ill ask

Is it just one of these but with thred on the hanger rather than the nut?

oh yeah, these mounts look very similar to the velobuild mounts. but according to that listing's compatibility list, all of those cube models seem to be mountain bikes? and also it looks like the stopper is in a totally different position. which may put your derailleur on a strange angle?

Re: Any chinese frames using high modulus carbon like the real Specialized frames? next gen Spark EVO

all-new Super EVO

Both will be built with the same UHMS material and EPS+ process as the Robin EVO. The current gen Spark EVO is HMS EPS+ while the Super EVO is essentially a Robin EVO but with endurance geometry. Pardus will also take the current gen Spark EVO frame mould (shared w/ Storck Aerfast 4 & Aerfast 3) and make a Spark Sport that's downgraded to HS EPS+.
