Component Deals & Selection / Re: Fovno Crank sets

would have to say I do not recommend these cranks, hadn't even got to use them yet...

Sad to know it didn't panned out as we hoped. Thanks for the heads up.

For a 1x setup, I don't see why not. The limiting factor would actually be your chainstay. Usually, if you got clearance for wider rear tire, the chainring clearance would have to give.

I have been using Deckas & Stone chainrings for years now. 6 years for Deckas & 2 years for Stone. Both the round & oval variants. I have the 96 & 110 bcd. Have put thousands of kilometers on them and didn't have any issues.

I'd go boost and just get a non-boost to boost adaptor. That way you future-proof your bike.

Here's something I came across regarding Grade 5 (6Al-4V) vs Grade 9 (3Al-2.5V) titaniums.

They used 3Al-2.5V titanium alloy. That's 3% aluminum, 2.5% vanadium mixed into the titanium. You can check it at their official website, http://www.waltlytitanium.com/.

As per my research (back then), for bicycle application, you can either use the 3Al-2.5V (most common), 6Al-4V or combination of both. 6Al-4V is lighter and stiffer than the 3Al-2.5V but more expensive.

@noodleshop, I can only give the basic rate for Waltly Ti Mfg. As I've no experience or much info about other titanium bike manufacturer. Waltly's base rate is US$800. Some features have additional charges. But for the features you mentioned, I believe they all fit in the base rate.

Where to start. Contact Waltly. They will inform you what they'll need from you. If you have a geometry chart/sheet ready, that'll be a big help.

@emu26, it's good to know your kid is doing okay. I do hope he doesn't have any future complications.

Yikes with that bike manufacturer. I'm waiting for the time you'll share the brand with us.

How is your kid?

#1. I've no answer. I never do jumps or stunts and don't have experiences with full suspension bikes.

#2. Personally, if they dictate poor techniques or improper landings voids warranty. They're simply saying they don't have any warranty at all. I mean, even the pros have shown poor techniques & bad landings at some point. They're just basically saying their bikes are only for perfect riders.

In those catastrophic times. Couldn't you drill a 12-12.5mm hole in the thread to remove it?
And then use an axle with a nut.

It can probably be done.

Shimano and DT Swiss both make E-Thru axles that come with the nuts. I actually prefer the frame NOT be threaded as a cross-thread will ruin your frame if something goes wrong.

Regarding threaded frames for TA. I was rear ended by a motorcycle once and the TA thread on the Chinese cf frame was disintegrated by the impact. If the frame didn't came with a nut for the TA, I probably won't be able to use that frame anymore.

I am curious what pitch threads will be on my ti bike? I have 12x148mm but I am not sure if it will be 1.5mm or 1.0mm pitch threads. I can't tell from my drawing. What do you guys have for rear thru axles on your waltly frames bxcc and tripleDot?

The frame came with their tru-axle, I believe it's a 1.5 pitch. But admittedly, I don't really know how to read the vernier calipher... so I just included it in the pic.

Component Deals & Selection / Re: Nice 144BCD Crankset?

Here's a couple.

And if you look down each one, there are additional suggestions too.

But why would you need that strange BCD?

Fixed gears and track bikes often use the 144 bcd.

Took it out for a short trail ride. Experiences...

  • Sluggish start.
  • Pretty good climber, although I had to compensate a bit on steeper climbs as the front wheel likes to leave the ground. But I believe this is due to the fact that I am using a much longer fork (29+) that altered my front end angle.
  • The fit reminds me of my plus bike (CS-496), which I really loved.
  • Nimble & stable on descends.
  • Pretty fast on flats. Although feels a bit heavy on the rear.

I'm loving it.
