Re: Which chains is everyone using? My road bike came with a Shimano 105 11 speed chain. It's still going strong after 3000+ miles. I've had good luck with Shimano SLX 12 speed chains on my mountain bike (1000+ miles before 0.5% wear).

I currently have a KMC X11 chain on my gravel bike because I got it for a really good price. It doesn't have many miles on it but it shifts really well with the XT cassette. It shifts a lot better than the Shimano chain did with the AliExpress lightweight cassette.

Re: When do you change the cassette? By skipping, you mean that the chain is lifting of off the teeth? As opposed to trying to shift up/down on it's own?

If so, then it might be time to change the cassette. I've had skipping cogs after replacing a really worn chain with a new one.

Re: chinese carbon saddles I recently got the Elita carbon saddle for my road bike:
https://www.aliexpress.us/item/2251832622302239.html

It's one of the few carbon saddles that come in a wide size. I got the 155 mm and it's much more comfortable than the narrower saddle it replaced. I weighed mine at 131 grams (125 claimed). I don't have many miles on it, but it seems to be pretty solid. (I'm about 95 kg with my gear.)

Re: 2023 VeloBuild CX-002 Cyclocross Frame Love that paint job! I'm sure the pictures don't do it justice.  :)

Re: japjoe7 Carbonda FM1001 build thread
While I'm waiting on a bunch of stuff to be delivered from AliExpress. Food for thought. I'm using ZTTO M1 hubs(DT Swiss 180), RYET 28 hole rims, Pillar straight spokes in a 3 cross pattern. This'll be interesting. DT Swiss calulator says I can do 3 cross this way. I bought the spokes based on this calulation. Thoughts?

With straight pull spokes, the cross pattern is determined by the drilling angle on the hub. My 28 hole hubs were 3 cross so I suspect that is correct for you as well, but it would be a good diea to verify before starting to lace the wheel. Just stick a few spokes through the holes and see how many crossings you end up with.

Re: Fixing small paint chips on carbon frameset Basically the same as you. I painted my gravel bike myself and it hasn't been the most durable. I've touched it up a number of times with the original paint and it looks better but you can still tell there was a chip.

At some point it will get so bad that I repaint it.

Re: DT 240EXP hub clones Goldix, Venfort
Any boost MTB hubs recommendation? I would like ratchet and light. I found the Venfort and Goldix M180. Any other similar with better weight?

I built up a set of wheels with Goldix 240 hubs (36T) and they've held up well for about 400 miles so far. I'm about 95 kg with gear and like cranking up super steep stuff in my 30/51 gear, so they can handle the torque pretty well.

The bearings still seem fine but I will probably order a replacement set soon so that I have them if needed.

Re: Carbonda Gravel Carbon frame CFR707
so if i use no adapter at all i should have 160mm rotors ( and flat mount brakes) on the cfr707

That is correct for the rear. The fork still needs the 140/160 adapter.

Re: Painting over UD matte finish UD is the carbon weave. If you sand all the matte finish off, the stands will mostly be running in the same direction. I don't think the raw UD carbon looks nearly as good as the 3k weave that was so popular when carbon was new.

Re: Carbonda Gravel Carbon frame CFR707 I ran full housing for the rear derailleur past the bottom bracket and out the chainstay. For the front derailleur, I ran the housing to the stopper in that little rectangular plastic piece under the bottom bracket and then just the inner to the derailleur. I  used a bit of the plastic guide that came with the frame to line the last little bit of the cable and hopefully keep dirt off.

Shifting has been good after getting it dialed in. The tension in the front derailleur cable holds that plastic part in, so I couldn't pull it out for the picture without having to loosen the cable at the derailleur.

I'm glad I opened it up for the picture. It looks like once of the inserts for the cover bolts is corroding so I will have to grease it really good.
