Re: Welcome to Chinertown - Introduce Yourself! Hello,
I'm Jann from San Diego!

I cam across this forum when researching frame options for my gravel bike build. I'm leaning pretty heavily towards the Carbonda CFR707 at this point, although I like the CFR696 as well.

There's a wealth of great information here. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences!

Re: Aluminium Gravel Frame Sonder sells the Camino AL frame for $360 USD. It's not that much cheaper than an unbranded carbon frame, although it has massive tire clearance and a progressive geometry.

Re: Carbonda Gravel Carbon frame CFR707
@janmeyer Can you share your body mesurments? length and inseam?
I'm struggling on deciding which size i need, i'm 193cm with an 93cm inseam, when i compare this frame with my other (road)bikes it's long in reach. To get a comparable reach im in between L an XL.

I'm about 188 with an 89 cm inseam. You can't directly compare the reach of this frame to a typical road bike. Like many of the newer gravel bikes, the 707 was designed with a longer front center for stability on rough terrain, and you compensate by running a shorter stem. An XL 707 with an 80mm stem gives me about the same handlebar position as my L Canyon Endurace with a 110mm stem. However, the front wheel will be about 40mm farther forward on the 707, so it should be more stable on the technical descents. (And there will be more toe clearance, even with fat tires.)

The XL 707 is very close in measurements to the L Canyon Grizl. That bike comes with an 80mm stem and has essentially the same handlebar position (Reach+ and Stack+ in canyon terms) as the L Endurace.

Re: Sunrimoon helmets, or helmets in general The fact that it's from China doesn't concern me. However, I wouldn't use a helmet that wasn't certified as meeting the relevant standards (EN1708 for Europe, CPSC for the US). It's hard to know if it will offer much protection if it doesn't have that testing.

Re: Carbonda Gravel Carbon frame CFR707 My frame arrived yesterday. I got an XL with external routing and will be building it up with Shimano GRX 2x. I haven't had the chance to weight it yet, but everything looks really good. The removable chainstay bridge fender mount is a nice touch.

Tire clearance is impressive. Both the frame and the fork cleared a 700x50 tire that measured 52 mm across the knobs. The fork had about 7 mm on each side and the frame about 6 mm. A 29x2.1" tire should be about the maximum. It may be possible to go slightly wider with 650b wheels but not by much. I had to remove the fender mounting bolt from the chainstay/bottom bracket junction in order to get the wheel in. It might be a bit tricky to get he wheel in and out when it's built up.

Re: Road Bike Disc rotor recommendation aliexpress. I have 180mm SM-RT54 rotors on my mountain bike and I'm happy with them. They've been quiet and have enough stopping power. (I don't do anything too crazy, but I am 95 kg...) I've been running resin pads, and I rarely ride in wet or damp conditions, so I can't speak to the noise when wet.

I've had similar experiences with the SM-RT10s (180/160 mm) that were originally on that bike as well as the SM-RT70s (160 mm) on my road bike.

Re: My Dengfu R12 - First Impressions and Video It's beautiful! I bet it's even better looking in person.

Did you polish the clear coat? I'm debating whether or not to do that when I paint my frame. Part of me wants to, but the more pessimistic part says it will just get scratched up before long anyways when I ride offroad.

Re: Hardcore hardtails They have some interesting frames, for sure. They don't seem to have as much information about each as Tiris/Tiorays, so I'd be hesitant to go with them. The geometry diagram is pulled directly from Santa Cruz's web site, although it doesn't match the current Highball or Chameleon.

I wonder how they compare with Tiris or Waltly? I'm also curious how a budget titanium frame compares with a typical aluminum frame or a high-end titanium frame.

The custom headbadges are nice, but I can't say I'd want a bike with their example custom anodized logo.

The fat bike frames are interesting, though.

Re: Carbon defect - serious or not. It's hard to say exactly what went on there. It could be that the carbon is solid there but didn't press fully into the mold for whatever reason. Have you tried tapping it to see if there is a change in sound at that location?

Unfortunately, the tap test won't catch many defects, and it's not possible to be certain without an expensive ultrasound test.
