That's definitely the best option. You'll get an optimized geometry then, with shorter chainstays thanks to the Boost.

73 mm is wide enough to fit a 2.8" tire on a 35 mm internal rim. That's what I get and love it.
It won't fit 3" tire. It won't fit 2.8" tire on >40 mm internal rim.

Seems odd to me why anyone would want to swap back and forth between hydraulic and mechanical brakes.  I think everyone would agree when I say, just put on the hydraulic brakes, forget about swapping, and just go ride your new bike.
CD, the point you miss is that you can't use a regular MTB brake lever on a drop bar

I am using the Jagwire for my Reverb dropper post with success.

I actually also swap it frequently with a regular seatpost as I get one set with a "Trailgator" to pull my daughter. The sticky part is perfect, it will stick for ever. The other part (the clip) is a little worn out now that I have swapped it a lot but it still holds the cable. I get some replacement parts for that but I'll only replace the clip, not the sticky part when time comes.

I fully understand you don't want to route your brake line internally if you swap frequently! I would make no sense.

Top this off with a 12 kg loss the first year :)
Honestly, if you get seriously into MTB you will loose weight steadily. This year I lost 1 kg/month over the 6 month of intense training prior to my key race. And I really had not planned on loosing weight, I was in the norm and am now fit.
So, just go for it!

Agreed. Let's set one BB as a standard and forget all the others. And pick this standard to be threaded (no press-fit).

I have never had any BB issue but my setup is an overkill: BB30 pressfit frame (aluminum insert) with BB30to24 threaded bearings so I can use my old XT cranks. When I ordered my frame I picked BB30 as I thought I would then move to a 30 mm axle crankset but I love so much my XT that I keep it (pretty light too, 608 g w/o rings).

Really nice bike!
I can't wait to upgrade to 1x11 over Xmas :)

PS: you should buy a pair of cable cutter. Side cutters don't do a good job as you can see here. I also use cable cutter to shorten brakes hose. Then, you can buy cable ends for maybe 2 bucks the dozen. This bike deserves a nice finishing  ;D

Another classic is to split the amount in two invoices, and two payments. Showing them just one.
This at least wouldn't end as a forgery in front of the juge  :)
But when customs ask for the proof of payment it's too late, unless you were well prepared and requested the 2-fold payment from the start. Still then you never know which mistake the vendor might have done, which invoice did he really place in the parcel? It's so easy to put the wrong one.
And customs make up their mind once, if it's too obvious you tried to fool them, it's game over. You will never see your parcel.

Out of 3 big deliveries from China I had to pay tax only once. My 2 frames got delivered with no additional fee. The wheels got stuck and I had to pay :(

I think customs are so used to being fooled that they want more then the attached invoice. When they pick you they want the proof of payment...
Agreed that Chronopost did not do a good job. First they handed the parcel to customs :(, then they also said they had contacted the vendor or me (which they had not done) and finally took me 21€ for their "effort"  >:(

Anyway, even though it was a pain, I don't regret a split-second my order. A couple people were amazed by my bike yesterday (while riding in the Vercors mountain), one told me "your bike must be 5000-6000€ right?" :) that's priceless :)

Salut Molothi,

Another French here (Grenoble).

I have faced the exact same situation about 2 month ago: missing documents, 8 days, VAT +21€ for Chronopost, email to customs, etc...
It tells me that the process could be improved for France if the vendor could attach the invoice to the parcel.

Customs fees are too high to me :) , you can work it around but If you get caught they keep the parcel and charge up to 1500€ fees. That's a lot of stress. And as you probably know, customs want a proof of payment, not just an invoice, so it's tricky (but doable).

29er / Re: SRAM 1x drivetrain hard to adjust?
« on: October 29, 2015, 04:16:20 AM »
All the right inputs have already been mentioned but I thought I'd highlight the key points:
- Get the chain alignment right. Not sure what crank/BB/chainring you use but it can easily be misaligned. I have fixed a similar issue by adjusting a chainring closer to the frame.
- Use a SRAM chain. Well, I'd say, in general, the more SRAM components you use the better. Mix and match often causes trouble similar to yours. It was usually fine by the time of 9 speed, it could be tricky with 10s, it's even worse with 11s.

It's good you clarify that this bar had been abused a lot before, because that jump was as small as can be and does not justify to break the bar. My take is:
- I'll never buy a 35$ carbon bar or stem from an unknown ebay vendor. A well known Chiner vendor would be OK, but honestly I've never seen anything interesting, their bars are always too heavy. If a cheap aluminum bar or stem is lighter (like a Ritchey) I'll go for that.
- I would not use a carbon bar for anything harder then Enduro type of ride. I don't mean Pro riders don't do it, just that I will not.

26er & 27.5 (650b) / Re: 29 or 27,5
« on: October 08, 2015, 04:06:48 AM »
You are looking for a XC bike and you are 5'9"? Do I get it right?

Then, the best option is clearly a 29" frame. And I'd say that 16" frame size will probably be too small for you. To me, 27.5" wheel size is really only suitable for Enduro (160 mm travel) bikes. Other then that, stick to 29" and set it up properly.

29+ & 27+ / Re: Can 29er MTB frame assembled with 27.5er wheels?

One more update on 27.5+

I have raced yesterday with these wheels, something I never thought I would do. Again, everyone was amazed. It was a very technical trail with plenty of large drops, rock garden, mud, etc... I went through all of that perfectly and felt no weight penalty. Several times I was the only one still on the bike uphill while others had lost grip.
The only question for me now is when will I sell my 29er wheels :)

Component Deals & Selection / Re: Formula R1 and other brakes

I don't want to spoil the excitement but those are standard prices to me in France. I don't mean they are not good prices, they are, just that a quick search on my top 2 favorite shops enable me to find the same deal, not time limited.
http://www.alltricks.fr/vtt/freins/freins-a-disques/formula-2015-frein-arriere-r1-disque-160mm-is-argent-poli-138-187197.html

I found a real good deal on SRAM Guide RSC a couple weeks ago, 179€ for the pair (yes, front + rear). This one was time limited. But I understand that Guide RSC might not fit with everyone, they are more enduro oriented (and heavier, 527g hardware included, length as delivered).
