29er / Re: Rim tape for 30mm carbon wheels?
« on: January 09, 2015, 08:04:40 AM »
Good to know, thanks Carbonazza.

Got my rims taped last night.  And yes it's true the 1" Gorilla tape fit the 30mm wide carbon rims perfectly.  I'm very pleased with how they went together.  Today I will mount the tires and get them sealed and seated.  Will keep you posted.
Thanks,
Andy  :D

I agree with CD.  I prefer a bit bigger frame.  They just feel way more comfortable to me.   YMMV.

Wow, terrific information!  Thanks so much everybody,  I am going with the 1" Gorilla tape method and the Orange seal sealant.  I'll keep you posted how it turns out.  Thanks again!

29er / Rim tape for 30mm carbon wheels?
« on: January 07, 2015, 05:53:56 PM »
Well, got my tires in for my 30mm carbon rims and ready to set them up tubeless.  Wondering what brand, size tubeless rim tape y'all are using on your rims?  Anyone had any luck with just using gorilla tape.   Thanks,
Andy

Thanks guys for the tire suggestions.  In the end I've decided to go with what I've used and been thrilled with.  the Gato up Front and Mezcal out back.  I just love 'me!  Thanks Again,

Hi Vipassana,

I was gonna run Geax tires.  Mescal out back and a Gato 2.3 up front tubeless.  What tires do you use?  Thanks,
Andy.  :)

Hi David,

I'm not really sure how or if Xmiplay and Carbonality are connected.  I just know I have bought 3 different frames(1 of them custom painted)from Peter and have been thrilled with the quality and service.  It has been the exact opposite experience with Carbonality....a complete nightmare.
Good luck!

Yessir Novatec hubs and pillar spokes.  Can't wait to see if I can tell much difference with the lighter weight and wider footprint.  Thanks,
Andy

No don't do it.  I repeat do not buy from Carbonality.  I had a friend buy their full suspension frame that I tried to help him build up.  First issue the frame kept jamming down and getting stuck when it was compressed.  Contacted them and their customer service was horrible.  Wouldn't reply to emails.  Wouldn't take responsibility, etc.  gave us the run around forever.  Finally  after months of arguing with them and endless emails they sent different linkages that kept the jamming from occurring.  But
It severely limited the travel.  They refused to issue a refund or exchange.  Finally the seat tube snapped on a g out.  They said they'd sell him a new one at half price....ridiculous.  It was a HORRIBLE experience.

Buy from Peter at Xmiplay...he's a straight shooter and will do you right.

I am so sorry CD.  Do me a favor.  Put the orange tabby on your lap, relax and take heart in the fact that this happened in the off season.  You'll be back up and running before you know it.  Stay active here on the forum....we love your input.

CD if you're a Geax fan you just gotta try the Gato 2.3 up front.  Rolls fast, comfy and incredible grip.  Highly recommended!!!!

You are welcome.

I was able to get rid of my creaking issue by lubricating the pivots at the top tube and seat stays with some everyday liquid teflon lubricant.

I also replaced my grips with some Ritchey WCS True foam grips, so far they are my favorite grips.

Got about 300 miles on the bike now and she is so much fun to ride.  Next change will probably be a new set of tires, probably not right away but after the ones I have wear out I plan on going with another set of Geax Sagauro tires like I have on my IP-057.

Vipassana I myself don't ride SS so perhaps I shouldn't have asked machinists to step up(my apologies).  BUT if I did ride SS I would be hiring your man to machine me some of those dropouts and I would be willing to pay a pretty penny as I think that's a great way to attack the chain tension design.  Thanks for responding.

You know - last night I was looking at the dropouts of the frame, and realised that both left and right sides were actually aluminium screwed into the frame.  If we found someone who wanted to manufacture horizontal form fit replacements, we wouldn't need EBBs at all...

That is a brilliant idea!  Machinists please step up!
