Yes...the head set race needs to sit flush in the crown of the fork.

Frame looks great. The aluminum frame protector is a nice touch.

Looking forward to seeing the bike being built up!!

I meant to say integrated.  They are so similar that I just got the two mixed up.  With Zerostack you see the cup flange, with integrated there is no flange.

Oh haha...you scared me for a second. ;D

This guy is a straight up one man operation. He's also a Cat 3 racer. I was really surprised by his pricing.

On the flip side...there is a better known and larger shop a couple towns over and they charge 300!!

Here is my nearly completed IP-057 Lefty build! Please let me know of any observations since this is my first build.

Great build Tony! The white Lefty is a nice touch on the black frame.

Which version of the crank are you using? GXP or BB30...I can't really tell. If it is BB30...did you have any issues with the install?

Thanks!

I am pretty sure both bearings are flush on my IP-057 and IP-036, (this is a Zerostack headset), the washers go on top of the bearing, under the Neco cap.

I just pulled apart my my IP-036 last night as it was making a creaking noise, I cleaned and regressed the headset.   On mine, the bottom bearing was a snug fit but did push in by hand, the top just dropped in.

Have you tried tapping down the top bearing?  What does it look like with the shims, top cap, fork and stem installed?

Uh oh...I thought the Chiner frames are integrated where the bearing drops straight into the head tube. If they are Zero Stack...I'm in trouble because the steerer on my fork won't be long enough.

What fitting did you get charged 40 for?

Well I didn't actually pay for it, but it was a road bike from BikesDirect... Was just wanting a professional fitting done (stem length and rise, seat height)

A legit fit should cost about 200-250. Depending on what is done. I got fit on my road bike and it took about 1.5 hours.

For me the most important part of the fit was my saddle position. I was getting lower back pain on my left side. During the fit...he found that my saddle was too low and too far back. He also added shims that canted my knees in. The lower back pain was gone on the first long ride out. I can't count the amount of people I see riding their bikes with the saddles too and their knees bowed out.

So I just took those measurements and used them on my 29er.

The 256SL is almost a straight copy of the Open 1.0...with the exception of the slacker head tube.

Good point, but I think there is no better way to test a product than pro sponsorship. They put more abuse on a bike a part in one season than a recreational rider will in a year...or years.

Majority of the carbon boutique bike part makers are German. The price is high and the market is fairly small.

Are there stack and reach numbers for the 256SL? :-\

I honestly don't think there will be an issue with durability. Since there are no weight limits on the bikes used in World Cup mountain biking...alot of pros use the weight weenie parts.

Thats the weight weenie game. Once you reach XX weight...the dollar per ounce goes way up.

If I can get my weight to ~20lbs...I'll be pretty happy. :D

Nice n light build. He weighed each part. Some are higher end weight weenie parts. 18.71lbs! I guess the money saved on the frame allowed him to put the money towards more expensive parts.
