I completely recommend Leon's service! Very good and reliable and good quality. Looking forward to have a frame developed by your company too!
-
can recommend Leon and Yuanan as well. Bought 4 wheelsets so far: rd13 + uni50 marble finish for myself and two rd13 + uni50 matte for my frieds. all with pillar wing20 spokes
Marble wheelset weight is 1366g. matte finish wheelsets 1360g and 1367g. Still waiting for a gravel wheelset to arrive.
Delivery to Europe takes around 1 month from the payment. The wheels are very well built, you also get tubeless tape and valves in the box which is a nice touch.
-
Hi, what gravel wheelset configuration did you choose?

Hi, what gravel wheelset configuration did you choose?
I went for YAG-45 ultralight rims. 45mm depth, 31mm external and 24mm internal width rd13 hubs and pillar wing 20 spokes. promised weight is 1375 +- 30g
-
Can recommend this to, running a gravel wheelset bought from Leon. Multiple UCI events and they are bombproof!
-
Which type of hubs did you chooses?

I just pulled the trigger yesterday. 32mm outer width.
Hopefully they arrive fast.
He advised the RD07 hub, told him I was willing to pay more, but he said it's durable and he doesn't see a benefit in choosing something else.
Was 456$ with PayPal fee.

Just got my UNI45s via FedEx yesterday. It took right at 30 days from order to receipt. Leon is not the most responsive, but he does eventually respond.
Seem like nice build quality. Weighed in right at 1330g. Wheels were packed well. Finishing up the build today and will report back after I put some miles on them.
One thing I will say is that I've never had a set of tires mount so easy as on these wheels!

OK, very strange, just sent an email and they said Leon Hu is no longer with Yuanan? Anyone hear about this?

What if he never was, and was simply an independent agent disguised as an employee? ;D

I got the same information about Leon.

Fuckin hell it's not looking good. My first contacts with Leon was on official yuanan email sales@yuananbike.com. he contacted me after I've used the form on their website. I've ordered wheels and all was good. If he had access to the email and messages he clearly was with them.
But now there is a problem because I've ordered a new pair of wheels on 27.07.2024 with carbon spokes etc. and since then Leon was ghosting me and after few weeks replied that factory informed me they don't have those carbon spokes and need to outsource then bla bla bla. I demanded refund and he basically disappeared after promising it will be done this week.
What's most stupid from me side is that I've chose the option "friends and family" on Paypal and now basically I think I may just lost 800$
-
Obviously same here.
I paid with PayPal fee, but I doubt it'll help, PayPal is famous for not stepping in.
Haven't heard back from Cassie (new sales contact) either.

I just wrote and email to yuanan. He was using their email and stuff so he was a representative. I hope they will try to resolve it but yeah... That's hope. And I think it will end with just hope :/
-
On WeChat he said he didn't scam us. Let's wait.

Normally their company should pay you back the money, since he was authorized to use their company official email, I think no company wants to get bad reputation like that. Hope you can get your money back soon.
-

He is unresponsive on WhatsApp since few weeks and is not responding at all to my messages since over a week. And the message that the wheel production is delayed because a factory does not have carbon spokes and have to outsource them... Really ? A huge factory in China can't get carbon spokes? I don't buy it.
-
I've just got a reply from Cassie:
"Hi Jakub,
Sorry to cause you inconvenience.
We are solving this problem already ,before you asked . Will let you know soon .Today or tomorrow .
Thank you .
Best regards
CassieQin
General manager "

So Leon answered me after our first messages here today.
Let's see and wait, that's at least a sign, that they're working on it. Cassie didn't get back to me as for now.

I've used the official contact form on the website and got an answer on email. Now there is a hope they will resolve the issue. That is extremely irresponsible towards yuanan brand what Leon has done last few weeks.

Was there any incentive to buying from Leon instead of brand stores on Aliexpress? In my case I was quoted $495 + fees shipped for 50mm deep 1490~ grams rim brake wheelset.
On Aliexpress, if you time your purchase right you can score Elitewheels Edge 1290-1300 grams 50mm deep wheels for 500 ish (using coupons) and you get at least some customer support + in the worst case PayPal backup.

Yes, full customization. For gravel wheels last year I chose 35 deep 25iw rims with 36t ratchet with Pilar 1420 spokes under 500$ which was the best choice imo then. For now I wanted the new wide UNI rims 32 outside and 23 inside with carbon spokes. The only real alternative in this price point is Magene Exar Black, but still narrower outside width and 200$ more. Now when I will get my money back I'm ordering the Magenes from AliExpress on 11.11 and don't wanna deal with those direct factory orders anymore.

For me there definitely was (better pricing and better/more options…)
I was quoted $475 (shipping/tax included) for a 44mm deep / 31 (outer) wide wheelset with RD13 XDR hub and Pillar AERO1423. Total weight was said to be 1480g (+/- 30).
Aliexpress didnt even come close - either much more expensive or slightly more expensive for higher weight and non-ratchet hubs.
Also Leon / Yuanan had several positive feedbacks on chinertown and reddit.
And Paypal „backup“ is usually a complete joke anyways - you are better of paying with CC and doing a chargeback when things go bad.
-
I used to sell a lot on eBay prior (still do occasionally) and have found out that PayPal will, in most cases, side with the buyer if a dispute was raised.
-
This is a reply to the thread in general.
I placed an order about 10 days ago after communicating with Kelly Wen, her email signature lists her as the “ODM Sales Manager”. She reached out after I contacted them directly through their website.
Everything went smoothly with ordering a custom wheelset, she was very responsive to all of my questions, but after reading the updates in this thread I’m a bit worried.
I reached out to Kelly this morning about a status update for my wheels. Hopefully I’ll hear back from her this evening/tonight when she’s back in the office. I’m in Florida, USA so there’s a significant time difference.
-
Kind of worried now that I ordered through Leon on Aug 14 via WhatsApp, PayPal G+S. Communication is dreadful. Worst case PayPal dispute or credit card chargeback in the next few days if I don't hear back. If we all follow suit PayPal will have clear signals that Yuanan account is a scam.
-
If your money hasn't been refunded yet, don't wait around for a Chinese company to refund your money. My experience is that some the most reputable Chinese companies may still try rip you off if given the opportunity, even if you have an established business relationship with them.
Anyone who paid by PayPal G+S, put in a dispute asap, anyone who paid by credit card, put in a chargeback asap, anyone who paid by PayPal F+F, better start praying to Allah.
-
I recently got a tracking number from Leon. Are you sure that fuss is worth it?
-
It's incredible how you guys go from best to beast in a couple of days.
Leon has always been correct with everyone and fulfilled the orders.
He left the company but don't you guys also change jobs? Yes, he was the face of the company on the forum but starting a fuzz because he doesn't answer in a couple of days or because the company asked you to wait because they need to go check on Leon orders...
I get nothing from defending anyone but don't make a storm in a cup of tea. Leon, Peter, Longteng etc etc. Some days they take more time to answer sometimes less.
-
Hmm, Cassie told ne a few weeks ago Leon changed department but it’s still fine to order from him.
Let’s see, 15 wd lead time ends today.. what’s your existence with adherence to that?
-
Kelly got back to me.
My package reached the delivery centre, might be delivered today.
-
Mine reached Germany too.

Storm in the cup, WTF are u talking about? This guy I holding my money for over 6 weeks, been lying, ghosting messages and finally stopped replying. Your post is a joke.

Relax guys, it took 2-3 months sometimes for me. Think that's normal.

I was ordering wheels before and know the process. But there is more here then just time my friend. First of all made an agreement with Leon for express production and shipping to have wheels for event in Alps. After the payment he started ghosting me. I asked few things which took him few days to answer. Never happened before. When I started asking about the wheel status he stopped replying for over a week and it happened few times. He send a copy paste formula 2 times that wheels are in production. Then after over 4 weeks he said that they don't have carbon spokes to build the wheels. I demanded refund which he refused, but after saying that it will hurts the reputation he said he will make REFUND and disappeared again.
So yeah mate if someone is lying for weeks that they building wheels just to later say that they don't have parts. And then agrees to refund and stops replying for almost 2 weeks and counting, there is nothing to relax imo. This is not normal mate, we are not talking about longer then usual order. Don't mix those things up.
-
yeah seems like the whole ordeal with Leon didn’t end too well. Hasn’t actually placed orders.
I wonder if he just didn’t do that or whether he also funneled the payments.
Anyways, let’s see how this goes on.

Mind telling me which wheelset you ordered and when you did the payment?
I am from Germany aswell, payed over 5 weeks ago for a YHG44-04D wheelset and still waiting for tracking number / delivery confirmation... not especially worried, just curious.

It is totally normal for chinese business, especially with OEM business...
cancelling an order while production of your specific item already startet (so the company already put worktime and material in it) and demanding a refund just because of some delay is something a reasonable person would totally NOT expect from a chinese OEM.
Is your alleged "agreement" for express production printed on the the invoice? If not, it does not exist!
Chinese mentality is to put 200% effort on "sealing-the-deal"-communication (because this earns them acutal money) and then 5% effort on "deal-is-already-done"-communication (because this doesnt earn actual money).
Chinese mentality on unpleasant questions is to give nice and friendly sounding answers, not the (unpleasant) truth.
If you mind this stuff, go to Amazon or the like and pay a 100+% premium for in time express delivery, guranteed refundability and/or babysitting customer service...
-
I did order mine on 24th of July, then it was produced by 15th of August then a long time no messages from Leon even on request. Shippping confirmation I got on 30th August seeing it's been shipped on 25th, now awaiting delivery.
Maybe tomorrow.

Don't even wanna waste my time on you tbh. But yeah nothing is "alleged". I had a clear agreement. Lying, not replying and finally agreeing for refund just to disappear is NOT normal and You saying that Chinese act like that is just an insult for all good asian sellers. Also shit that u r writing and agreeing on just shows how low standard person u are, don't expect it from others. Justifying lying, horrible customer service and "scam looking" practices only helps those who wanna represent low standards. No one is expecting babysitting customer service here u are talking bullshit. I don't think u have much experience tbh, also u are a very fresh user which shows. I am ordering stuff from china for over 15 years and this is hands down worst experience I've had. No professional or even semiprofessional seller ever acted like that. I don't have some expectations as I have for local sellers. But when u cooperate with a company for some time, recommend their products to friends and then the guy disappears when many people are waiting for wheels is just looking bad. Period.
-

Wow! I bet it's great to do deals with you when your vocabulary and tone is so polite.
Regardless... You tried to contact Leon and didn't get an answer from him. Of course this not a great sign, BUT you contacted Yuanan. You have got an quick answer within 24h saying they were aware and would answer you within soon.
I don't see anything wrong here than the delay from Leon. If he moved etc, especially in a sudden way (for reasons which the company doesn't even need to share to you) it's quite normal that the company needs to catch up. So I'd suggest you just to relax, have a cup of tea instead of coffee, and just wait for Yuanan's answer.
I know it's annoying but if you do business usually this is part of it. It happens to every business on a regular basis, that's why we have risk mittigation strategies

Mate I was trying to resolve this issue outside a forum for some time now. Didn't want to spread any panic on the forum and make accusations prematurely. But when others started posting they have problems I couldn't act like nothing happened, because I was the one who introduced Leon to this forum, you probably don't know that and it's fine.
And by my talks with Cassie they where already knowing that Leon made a mess before I even contacted them. So they also decided and saw that what he did is NOT normal and acted. But yeah some random dudes on the forum try to convince others that it's perfectly normal and that Chinese sellers are one big mess... No they're not and can't be if they wanna deal with western customers.
-
It's a pity, i really enjoyed getting custom build quotes from him via whatsapp, was both helpful and practical. And prices were good too. He's been ghosting me for weeks, even though he's still using whatsapp.
Do we have an alternative Yuanan contact to interact with on whatsapp or wechat?
-
I can somewhat side with both factions.
Situation is a little weird. Also their contact mail now changed to @yuananbike.com.
When I paid to Leon via Paypal Invoice the bill address was @xmcarbon.cn (cassieqin@xmcarbon.cn).
But since this is same Cassie you guys still talk about everything (despite communication after sell) looks still fine to me.
Can't await receiving them tomorrow or monday. Other guys ordering around my date received today.

You just need to open the website and you'll see cassie's whatsapp :)

I get it! That's why I'm saying that there is a lot of fuzz in a short time. Cassie/Yuanan are already on it.
Leon is/was/whatever a sales contact point from them. He was a nice guy, responsive and his reputation was there. If he left the company and for some reason he was using his personal whatsapp, now that he left, he might be flooded with messages he doesn't even care.
Every now and then I get messages and request from clients from the company I was previously working on (via social media channels) which I either ignore or just tell them to contact the company.
It's not nice of course and all this could be improved with better communication or just simply using functional mailboxes (but those also have their quircks).
I suggest we keep the trust with Yuanan at least till proof of opposite. As regards Leon himself, up to him to decide if he wants to come to the forum or not and say from his words something.
-

I did suggest this to him two hours ago.
But anyhow, if he changed company, he can start selling under new name like Nuck Chorris.

Actually I don't care the least as long as anything goes out fine.
When you reach out to Amazon support or similar it will also show names that aren't the actual contact person's name.

I've ordered from Farsports for about 10 years, never had a problem. Never even paid in full until the product was ready to ship. There have been a couple of delays always fully and properly communicated and given the option for a refund in one case because the delay was significant. Bought a whole bunch of Chinese frames from different manufacturers for testing for a disabled cycling team that my company sponsors. Same thing, never had an issue like this but we had fully communicated updates and delays if any. Personally I'm onto my 4th Chinese frame and never had any thing like this.
It's not normal, it's unacceptable, do not defend this behaviour, anyone who is trying to say this is normal is probably just some child behind a keyboard with experience extending only to their alloy Triban.
-
Received my wheelset.
For sure there communication was bad, but at the end we just got stressed, because the single point of contact left the company.
-
Leon: The Unprofessional
-
I've bought 3 wheelsets from "Leon" and never had a problem. My 4th purchase didn't go very smoothly though(I received a different finish than ordered) and when I tried to find some solution, Leon just ghosted me. Reading messages but never responds.
So you get your typical Chinese after-sales support with this company which is unfortunate because the wheels themselves are great.
-
yeah seems like the whole ordeal with Leon didn’t end too well. Hasn’t actually placed orders.
I wonder if he just didn’t do that or whether he also funneled the payments.
Anyways, let’s see how this goes on.
Cannot confirm this:
I contacted Leon via company email (sales@yuananbike.com) and finally ordered on 30th of July and, altough I told him I got some issue with my Paypal and probably wont be able to pay before the end of the week (1st / 2nd August), he nevertheless said he placed that order because his discount promotion ended 31th July (and according to him the pricing would have changed if he waited).
For Paypal payment he told me to use "xiamenyuanan@foxmail.com" (which is the same adress as on their website https://www.yuananbike.com/delivery/payment) and that I can use F&F friends option or have to add some % if I use regular payment.
I finally payed on 1st of August using the F&F option.
On 22th of August I asked him (using "reply" on the same company email we used for communication before) about the status of my order.
He replied within a day or two, telling me that it is still in production but not giving any ETA or further information (which was fine for me as I dont expect a chinese OEM to do any carebaby-customer-service or be espacially tight on single-order delivering times)
Yesterday -after reading in this thread that Leon probably left the company- I contacted Yuanan through their contact form on their website, asking about the status of my order number.
Today I got this reply (from marketing@yuanbike.com):
Hello highwind,
This is Kelly from Yuan an bike. Leon has left our company .
Your goods have been sent out on Aug, 30th.
The tracking number is 123456789YXZ
Here's tracking link : https://t.17track.net/en#nums=whatever
Thanks&Best Regards
Kelly Lee (ODM SALES MANAGER)
Tracking is working and says it just arrived in Germany today with DPD being the carrier (which is also what Leon and I agreed upon while ordering).
So 10/10 for Leons and Yuanans credibility from my side.
I did order mine on 24th of July, then it was produced by 15th of August then a long time no messages from Leon even on request. Shippping confirmation I got on 30th August seeing it's been shipped on 25th, now awaiting delivery.

Ah, I see - "Servus and danke für die Info!" ;)
With my order being placed some days after yours and then also arriving some days after yours, their production lead times seem very constant - which is good to know for the future.
Also shit that u r writing and agreeing on just shows how low standard person u are, don't expect it from others. You seem to confuse me justifying stuff with me naming facts ::)
But hey, its not my unrealistic expactations shattered, but those of you "wannabe-high-standard"-fantasizer... and if alternating between rage, denial and insulting / calling me names makes facing reality more bearable for you, then be it.
At the end of the day my expectations (as the low standard person you call me) got me a nice carbon wheelset for less than 500 bucks while your expectations (as whatever you tell yourself you are) got you nothing but some hassle, wasted time and effort :-*

Ah, I see - "Servus and danke für die Info!" ;)
With my order being placed some days after yours and then also arriving some days after yours, their production lead times seem very constant - which is good to know for the future.
Cool story bro, but only waste of time is replying to you so I'll do it last time. You are new here and new to Chinese market. I've made few orders from Leon in the past and communication and delivery time was always fast. But things changed recently which raised questions which where valid as others had similar problem. The fact that u agree to be treated badly and have low expectations does not mean everyone want the same. Many respected users and sellers here have higher standard. And this was the standard offered by Leon in the past and this is what we naturally expect. If suddenly for some reasons things change and standards lower to "your level", some people including me don't accept it.
In life, sports, business changes for worse are not well welcomed, at least for some people . You may not understand it, but you have to swallow it :)

I think highwind is trying to normalize bad customer service to convince himself that things will work out in the end. I agree that bad customer service is unacceptable, even with the Chinese. I've never had a bad experience w/a bunch of vendors. So I will probably chill with Yuan An for now and go elsewhere. There are enough stand up vendors to not deal with nonsense. Even my recent custom Tan Tan order went without a hitch. I think they got slammed during COVID but are now back at capacity.
-
Mine did arrive today. Looking fine so far, but didn't test anything yet.
-
I've been looking at ordering from Yuan An, but wasn't able to find a rim that I was really interested in.
I'm looking for 50-60mm deep and 30-32mm wide. For road use, I'd like a wider rim to run 32mm tires on. Lightbicycle seems to have some nice suitable options!
-
Yuanan should have an option. Or ask Peter from XM Carbon.

Leon messed my order with wrong finish. Wanted UD matte 70% instead of classic UD matte because I find it to greyish looking. But they produced UD matte.
I was offered a refund or a small discount. As I am tired of waiting for those wheels any longer took a discount and will swallow the grey look. Hope I like it. Will report when I get them.
Cassie and Kelly are handling things good.

Cool story bro, but only waste of time is replying to you so I'll do it last time.
Wasting your own time seems like a dedicated hobby of you, so I didnt expect else... your next reply will surely be the very last time, right? ;D
You are [...] new to Chinese market.
Because my registration date on some random forum is only a few weeks old? Tahts teh logiks!!!! :o
I've made few orders from Leon in the past and communication and delivery time was always fast.
To quote your words: "Cool story bro"
But things changed recently which raised questions which where valid as others had similar problem.
Yes, someone leaving a company is obviously a change - glad that you found out yourself!
You didnt raise questions... you were blaming, accusing, name calling - completely overreacting about an absolut trivial occurrence: an employee leaving a company and therefore stops replying to customers of that company
The fact that u agree to be treated badly and have low expectations does not mean everyone want the same.
I wasnt treated badly - you repeatly claming otherwise doesnt change that fact ::)
My expectations were obviously realistic - just in contrast to yours, because the obvious reason you are crying here is your unmet expecatation of Leon being your personal carebear even after he left the company you ordered from.
You may not understand it, but you have to swallow it
You again seem to confuse stuff - As I said: I got a tracking number and the wheelset just arrived today (which was like 4 days later than what I was told before ordering and which is absolutely reasonable for anybody not being a pathetic bean counter)
So the only person failing to understand but still having to swallow (as none of your fuzz on this thread changes anything about it) is obviously you 8)
I think highwind is trying to normalize bad customer service to convince himself that things will work out in the end.
I think Takiyaki has some serious issues with reading comprehension because neither did highwind write he experienced bad customer service (quite the contrary, as his requests were all answered within absolutey reasonable periods of time especially given the timezone difference between Europe and China) nor does he need to "convince hisself" of things working out at the end, because he got a working tracking number and just receiveed his nice new wheelset exactly as ordered 8)

YHG54-04D is 54mm deep, 31mm outer width, 24mm inner width, hooked
YHG54-04S is 54mm deep, 31mm outer width, 24mm inner width, hookless
It is the same rim as on my wheelset but 44mm deep (YHG44-04D), feel free to check the pictures above

So what’s the verdict here? Are we still good doing business with Yuan An? What is the new sale person contact now? Email only? Whatsapp #?

Yuanan OEMs for Elite, pretty sure it's been business as usual the entire time, it's just that Leon doesn't work with them anymore, but their contact details are on their website, so it's only a matter of liaising with a different sales rep.
-
If they build wheels for Elite then they are WELL built. I ride them quite harshly (jumps, hoping curbs etc) and last night hit a massive rock doing ~30kph on a gravel track (getting dark) that nearly threw me off my bike and not a mark on the wheels. I weigh 115KG and the wheels are ELITE X-WEAVE- tubeless w/35mm gravelking ss tires. DEF be buying another set new year when I build another bike.
FWIW I went through the Elite store and it took 2.5 months for delivery with 3 delay requests from them. I WAS getting nervous LOL
-
I received my wheels a couple of weeks ago and couldn’t be happier.
They worked to get them out before the holiday to prevent any delays.
I worked with Kelly Lee who answered all of my questions thoroughly and besides a couple of short delays in communication when the stuff about Leon was blowing up here, she always got back to me quickly.
I expected to pay customs duty/VAT but for some reason didn’t have to pay anything.
Id give them a 9.5/10 for the quality of the wheels and service.
So what’s the verdict here? Are we still good doing business with Yuan An? What is the new sale person contact now? Email only? Whatsapp #?

so... xmcarbon.cn is Yuanan, and entirely different from xmcarbonspeed.com.
That's not confusing at all...

Hi Kelly,
I for one am glad that you’re picking this back up. I purchased a set on MTB wheels through Leon last winter and was pretty happy, I would have purchased my gravel wheels from you too but didn’t get a timely answer (through Leon, in the middle of the change). Ended up making a bad choice on my purchase, I am glad that we now have 3 very good options to pick from!

Hi,
today I was finally about to install my new Yuanan Wheels today which I received some weeks ago.
But then I noticed that the rear wheel is unbalanced. While it is (to my eyes) perfectly trued it is wobbling (uneven weight distribution).
The front wheel doesn't have this at all.
I then did try to look into spoke holes with help of a fleshlight and noticed amassed and displaced carbon fibres and resin at the point of unbalance.
I tried to take pictures but it didn't work out too well.
Is this acceptable? I had expected my new wheels to be well balanced when coming fresh from factory.
Regards
PS: Not sure if what I did photograph is actually causing the unbalance, but it doesn't look fine in that area for sure.
-
You might want to buy an endoscope on AliExpress, they're super cheap. The problem looks bad on your pictures but without a pic from inside it's hard to be sure. It does look the carbon matrix isn't infused with resin, which would be a red flag. However, a better picture is needed.
On balancing wheels, bear in mind that a tubeless valve weighs much more than a tpu valve, so I always balance my wheels with lead weights (on AliExpress as golf club lead weights for cheap), sometimes it's needed, sometimes it's not. Obviously, if the wheel is wildly out of balance, then that's a red flag.
I've ridden bikes with the wobble of death, scary AF, so wheel balancing is a good insurance policy.
-
Any recommendation on an endoscope? I might buy one.
But am still wondering how that wheel did pass quality control. One of the valves was too short as well.
I'm scared it won't hold in that area and also the unbalance it's causing is close to valve so adding up with the valve's weight >:(
I've reached out to Kelly, let's see what she replies.
-
You also might want to look up the difference between a "Fleshlight" and a "Flashlight" ;D

this does look like the moulding bladder remains that where not extracted properly.

this does look like the moulding bladder remains that where not extracted properly.
Is that an issue or not really?
-
Is that an issue or not really?
I think not. It's just the carbon taking the shape of a crease in the bladder during production. No remains of the bladder
