Re: Best FM909 downcountry tires Update, I've been running the new Forekaster 2.4 in front with a Rekon 2.4 in the rear and this is my new favorite combo. The Forekaster has so much grip in corners on the loose over hard that I usually ride and doesn't feel like you're giving up any speed

Re: Gravel Bars (Carbon vs Alloy) (Flared vs Regular) I love the Carbonda CGB01: http://www.carbonda.com/accessory/handlebar/123.html

The flare on them rotates the entire drop outwards from the shifter clamping point, compared to most that seem to just rotate the tip of the drops out, leaving your hand position still under the top of the bars...if that makes sense. The flats are semi aero and feel great to me. Compatible routing for fully internal, partially internal, or traditional. The only downside would be the rise of the flats from the clamping point means most bar mounted accessories are not going to work, there is just not enough clamping space.

Re: Carbonda FM909 I'm planning a new XC/DC build but really want room for two bottles without some odd mounting option, and I'm not sold on the LC 918. After seeing the update to the FM936 for 120mm of travel I thought I would ask about the FM909 just to see. Here's the reply from Adam:
"Yes,we have updated 120mm travel linkage for FM936.
And we are also on developing the 120mm travel for FM909,this project should be done in 3 months.
The best regards!
Adam"

So realistically 4 months out? Glad that I asked and didn't move on something else.

Re: Max tire width FM936 & FM909 On my FM936 I started with a 2.35 Maxxis Ikon in the rear with a 30mm inner width rim, never measured but it was giant and still had a few mm of clearance. After that I've been using 2.4 Maxxis Rekon in the rear on the same 30mm inner width rim and it has a little more clearance even though it is marked as wider. If you're riding through peanut butter mud you'll have an issue, otherwise nothing to worry about.

On my FM1001 I'm using a 2.4 Maxxis DHR II with a 30mm inner width rim and could probably get away with a 2.5 or maybe even a 2.6, plenty of clearance in there.

Re: Spider mounted power meter advice You can use the standard 5 bolt SRAM power meter, you don't have to use the hidden bolt on the crank arm. This is what I did with my Rival GXP crank and Power2Max NGeco power meter. It uses the same 3 bolt spindle interface but moves the fifth bolt 180 degrees/opposite of the crank arm.

Re: Carbonda fm936 Thoughts
Hey all, on the 936 in size Medium, have done a handful of rides on it... feeling regrets choosing the SL size M. I am 182 cm with longish legs. It feels cramped at times. A ride I did with lots of tight corners (I live in rocky, chunky Arizona) revealed how awkward I feel on the bike. Then again I could also just be lacking cornering skills. I'm coming from a size L Specialized Fuse with a 170 cranks and a 45mm stem. First time riding a full sus, the hardtail felt so much more straight forward. I ride rough XC with some occasional rough trail.

I heard a lot of cases reading through all the pages for "sizing up", but I am also taking RAD into consideration. But when the suspension (Rockshox RT M rebound, L compression) is active, steering get's wonky. It feels like reach shortens. The straight-line speed is excellent though.

I am currently riding a 50mm stem with 780 bars, but I did also pick up a 75mm stem to lengthen things out. The result was a floppy steering, I'm feeling stuck and not sure if there's anything that can be done to "fix" the fit. I'm open to any ideas y'all may have. If I must go large, wouldn't that make my stem tiny?? I am definitely on the bike to tackle challenging/technical climb, the downhill is a fun bonus :)

I think you're trying to make this bike something that it isn't. It is a modern geometry, long wheelbase, slack headtube, cross country/down country frame. RAD might be ok for Trail and Enduro builds where you're hitting jumps and needing to pull the front end a lot, personally I think it makes no sense when you have no reference frame for angle, but this bike is closer to a road fit, long and low. I would definitely consider cutting your bars, running a stem that long with wide bars on this frame is going to give weird steering. The long wheelbase can also take time to get used to for maneuvering tight turns, but it is very much capable of them. I'm 188cm on a size large with a 60mm stem and 750mm bars that I might cut to 740, otherwise it the fit is great and no issue with steering.

Re: Carbonda FM909
Thanks for the recommendation! I ordered the ones you mentioned and some others that look like they would fit. In the meantime I might file one of the spare plugs (no remote lockout needed) to fit in the exit.

On a related note, did anyone use internal cable housing dampers? I have none installed yet and nothing seems to rattle when I drop the bike but now would be the time I guess :)

Maybe too late now, but I would recommend using them. I did not use any on my FM936 and there is definitely some rattling. I did use them on my FM1001 and it is silent.

Re: wheels for larger tire widths Before wider rims existed there was no other option. I've mounted 38mm Gravel King SKs on 19mm inner rims and they survived the flint hills of Kansas without issue. This is likely a mounting issue unrelated to the inner width.

Re: Carbonda FM909 Updated geo chart attached. Longer wheelbase and front-center, higher/less bb drop. Still in production, may be done end of August.

Also, chart shows 46mm offset for the fork but Adam claims 51mm is fine. Fox is currently selling the 34 step cast for $200 off, but only 51mm is available, 44mm sold out.

Re: Carbonda 505SL Integrated Stem I would check the headset spec to make sure that it is 1.5 to 1.5, but my guess would be that they are using the ACR spec. In which case any semi-integrated stem should work. There are a few from name brands as well as Chinese manufacturers.

Can you share any details you have about the 505 SL? Any images? Information is sparse and when I asked about it Adam basically said "yes, its a thing" without much else.
