Re: ICAN A22 frame, request experiences
I saw the hambini video and that's partly why I asked the question. To see if anybody had any opposing opinion. Can you link to any of those forums saying their frames are not as good as the hambinis special?

No, because that's not what I'm saying.  I'm saying that nobody has claimed any recently delivered frames are as good as his.  Which would be very unexpected if they really were facing all new frames to the same standards.

Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame
Just tagging along here because the 177 also has that small screw and I've always wondered about it. Does anyone know if it serves any purpose other than to hold the end cap in place? I removed the little end cap on mine and stuck the screw back in just to simplify removing/replacing the axle.

P.S. I know the screw serves no purpose with the axle in.  But I can imagine the fucking thing falling down a drain when I take the front wheel out to transport the bike, if I leave the screw off.

Re: My experience with Velobuild wheels and requesting after sales support.
Now it's my turn to reach out to VB.
Looks like I've developed disconcerting flex with my handlebars.

I've sent them photos and videos as well as ride data on when the issue arose.
I am not a mega power sprinter (max 1,100W. 940W for the ride in question), nor am I very heavy (75kg)
No crashes.

Below is a photo of what the steerer looked like before and after
Also a pic of cracking on the handlebar.  This is there older HB10 handlebars - can't tell if that is carbon or just paint cracking

I'll see what the court of public opinion says.  Part of my just wants to throw in a 90mm expander plug and see it that works, but a failing handlebar in traffic would probably be a bad time....

Don't ride that bar.  What you can see are paint cracks, but those kind of paint cracks develop due to excessive flex in the carbon beneath - which means that if there isn't already a crack in the carbon, there soon will be.  Cracks don't snake like that if brittle paint gets dinged.  Something is rotten with the bar itself.

Re: Integrated Handlebar Word of warning about the ICH stem as used by Arc8.

Bought one for my VB-099 build.  They're unusable with aero bars, despite no warning about that.  You might think the clamps are split and can be widened, but they're a contiguous oval(ish).  You can't slide them over the flattened section of either the aero bar I'd bought, or any that the LBS had in stock.  Round (and not oversized sections) bars only.

Awful design.  Supposed to give you a choice of whatever bar you want.  But only if it's slim and round  ::)

Re: Velobuild VB-R-086 D fork - should I be concerned? I think so I think hand sanding is being very generous ... that looks like someone using a dremel, or other kind of powered sander with no skill or care.   Scoring is much worse by the look of it than around my top headset bearing seat and top of seat tube, and in a much more critical area.

Yes you should be worried IMO.

Re: Disc Brake Aero Framesets Allowing For Non-Proprietary Stem?

I don’t think FSA makes an ACR style top cap that also allows for externally routing the cables which is kind of the point. Plus the tabs on default Dengfu top cap do not align with FSA c-ring.

Not a bearing cover / cap, no.  But you can use their cover, then a spacer, then stem-spacer interface spacer, and cut a hole for cable entry in the front of the latter, assuming that your stem will sit nicely on top of that interface.  It would be easier if you could find the dedicated SMR ones with holes pre-cut anywhere.

That way you don't have the heavily tapered cover and then spindly circular spacer look.

If you were running more stack (i.e. more spacers) you could also bond one of the thicker 2-piece ACR spacers together, then cut a section out of the front for cable entry.

Re: Thömus / Thoemus Lightrider - is this a catalog frame?
Do you really think that pro, world cup riders ride $800 frames? Trek, Scott, Yeti, Santa Cruz, Giant and countless others have different levels of carbon for different price points. My Lexon Riot is not the same as the Trinx Eva is riding. Perhaps same the factory, the mold and maybe even the same people making the frame but the materials, quality, fit and finish are way different.

You've bought into the marketing.  Virtually everything uses a mix of Toray T700, T800 and sometimes T1000 - or equivalent - and very similar molding techniques and resin type.   Even the very cheap Chinese stuff.  And yeah, some of the big factory teams will bin frames after either visually inspecting or x-raying them to go to pro riders.  But 9 times out of 10 they're exactly the same stock stuff even if they are binned.  One big difference for a lot of these catalogue / open mold MTB frames that are raced at pro level is that the stock bearings and bolts will be swapped out.  But then a lot of people on this forum do that too.

Re: Thömus / Thoemus Lightrider - is this a catalog frame?
If that is the case, which l don't believe, that is one huge conspiracy against the cycling community. $800 frames are the same as top end $4000+ frames. My Riot, while ok quality has many low rent aspects about it. Rear brake tabs not deep enough, voids in the carbon, carbon fraying in the headtube, messy paint here and there.
If i had a highend frame l would be pissed if what you say is indeed true. Im not saying these aren't good bikes. As a matter of fact they almost always get high praise when reviewed because the reviewer is so surprised they ride as good as they do.

Sometimes the workmanship or finishing is a bit better with expensive frames.  Lots are still rife with voids, wrinkles etc, and need brake mounts facing or have problem BBs.

Many of the Lexon frames are sold by other brands for 3-5x the price.  They'll be identical, possibly with a little bit more time spent on finishing.  And Lexon are just a brand, they make nothing.

And yes, essentially the business model is 'scam'.  Your S-works road or gravel frame costs less than $300 ...

Re: LightCarbon 918? I'd say this is definitely more on the old school side.  Even the 909 when set up with 120mm / 165*42.5 (thus similar travel) is much longer and much steeper seat tube, and is going to feel a lot more capable descending and climbing really steep stuff.
