Re: Workswell Frames Biggest problem with Workswell is that aside from their endurance frames, the vast majority of their portfolio is now indefinitely suspended for sales to individuals.  So not very useful for us.

Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame https://www.speedercycling.com/Carbon-Road-Disc-Frameset-SC-R49D-_p399.html

Longer, though not quite as low.  Though in practice it may be similar or even lower as top of head tube / bearing seat is below the top tube.  I'd definitely recommend Speeder over Velobuild generally, and would have bought one of their frames if they did something that suited my geo / tire clearance requirements.

Re: Carbonda FM909 Thinking out loud.  I really wish Carbonda / FlyBike would offer a DownCountry version of this frame with a modified rear triangle to accommodate ~115mm of travel with a longer stroke shock.

I'm still torn between this and the FM1001 in 120/120 config.  It'd be a very easy decision if there was an FM909DC though.

Re: Carbonda FM909
A 115-120mm FM909 would be perfect.  I don't think a 120/120mm FM1001 is a good combo, the geometry chart is with a 140mm fork and already has a 78deg seat tube angle.  With a 120mm fork, it'd be close to 79deg, which doesn't match the geo for a 120mm bike well.

Neither is ideal for my requirements, both would be a compromise.    The 1001 is going to be better for the long steep seated climbs here of 800-1400m that go on for ages.  It's also going to offer more comfort on the equally long descents.  But it'll lose out on the rolling sections, road connections and short, sharp out of the saddle climbs.  The 909 higher slung shock also allows for 2 bottles and will avoid some of the huge amount of dust that will be thrown at the 1001 shock.

I'd prefer the 909, but with a little a bit of added travel at the rear for those 30-40 minute descents and rockier sections.  It'd be a better tool for the job, hence wishing Carbonda / FlyBike would offer the 909 with a 'downcountry' rear triangle option.  I think it'd be in their interests to offer it, since downcountry is the biggest growth segment in MTB and new N+1 besides eMTBs (like gravel is on the road side).

Re: Carbonda FM909
I wonder if it could be attained via a custom linkage... that would also bring the bb up a smidge

I REALLY wanted one of these frames.. but I need to see how they fair under heavier riders first.

Different linkage might be possible.  But I mentioned different rear triangle as it's what several of their current / past frames have had for brand customers wanting slightly different travel / kinematics.

At the weight you specified, I'd definitely take the 936 or 1001 over a 909.  At its weight, there's no way it's as strong.

Re: Velobuild VB-R-218 I don't understand why someone would want to put the brand decals on a copy / inspired by frame.  It's just bizarre.  Odd subcategory of brand-whoring.  That certainly gets hate, and with some justification.  Counterfeit isn't good for the sport, the consumer or the industry.  I don't think there's much hate for unbranded stuff though regardless of what it's inspired by or a copy of ...

To me one of the best things about small / no brand company frames is escaping ALL THE BRANDING EVERYWHERE.  Unless they want to sponsor me, I can do without all their logos ...

Re: Rate the inside of this fork: It's difficult to know what to say other than this should never have left the factory.  I don't really understand how what we're looking at is either possible, or what has happened.  Guessing you didn't initially notice and now have.  Have you contacted VB about a replacement fork?  If you intend to keep riding it, maybe take it to a carbon repair place with ultrasound equipment / endoscope so you know what's actually going on and if it is safe to ride.

Re: ICAN triaero A9
So I'm gonna go out on a limb and say none of your headtubes look like this on the inside either...  :o

That's appalling.  Not just the bearing seats (which are way worse than my already shitty VB-099) but the headtube itself too.

Re: ICAN triaero A9
For the amount of money it has to cost ICAN to ship the frame back to their factory...they could have easily performed a two minute QC check either on the production line or before shipping.

There is obviously a disconnect somewhere. Usually is the case when a brand is no more than an agent rather than manufacturer.

I think there's a general attitude that the customers are mugs and they'll lap it up.  Throughout the industry.
