Re: Patty's Long Rant and Guide To Affordable Frames Influencers may have the biggest return on investment (tangible sales generated against marketing dollars spent), but probably not for the overall sales of any given brand. Especially for a large OEM factory. Winspace of course is probably one of the only exceptions here. It's an easy method to sell a few extra frames without much marketing effort.

Take VeloBuild for example. What are the overhead/production costs to manufacturer a frameset? Maybe a couple of hundred dollars? So if VeloBuild sends out a "free" frame in exchange for review, and that video review generates even two frameset purchases at full price, VeloBuild is already net positive on their investment. We just don't know how much of VB's sales in it's entirety are driven specifically as a result of influencers.

The whole Chiner Bike gatekeeping is interesting. I've been a huge fan of hip hop since the 1980's, so I understand the feelings of wanting to keep a sub-culture at a grassroots level versus going mainstream globally. This also reminds me of the hipster culture in late 2000s and early 2010s. We want to keep things underground even to the detriment a brand's sustainability. At the end of the day every brand/factory/agent is in the business of making money. With or without the help of influencers.

So I've been making videos for over 3 years now and I live in a large metro city. I'm also very active in the cycling community here. However...I have YET to encounter any Chinese brands in the wild that I've reviewed except for Winspace. A few pairs of Hypers and a single T1500 frameset. Talk about perspective. Granted, the social pressure/marketing here to ride S-Works frames and Pas Normal kits (in my particular demographic of cyclists) is very high. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. But no Chinese Bike Dude influencer is going to usurp that.

Sidenote: I've had my eye on Light Bicycle's Falcon WR65 wheels for a couple of months now. 65mm deep, 32mm external, and 25mm internal is such an obnoxious combo that I have to try it for myself. Gonna lace them to DTSwiss 240s.

Re: Interesting Aliexpress finds! - good deals, interesting stuff, new products etc! My 2 cents on bottles and I don’t want to open a discussion about health here…

but with all concerns about BPA and it’s modifications and health concerns, I’m not exactly trusting entirely unregulated plastic bottle manufacturers from Aliexpress. I’m all in for unbranded Chinese products otherwise, but feel like that in this case it’s not exactly worth even the potential risk. After all normal branded bottles are so cheap in absolute terms.

Winspace T1550 Build Not many people post photos of their completed bikes on here, but I always enjoy the posts. So I wanted to post my recently completed build on here, and share how much I spent. A lot of builds on here are really balling on a budget but I really purchased from mainstream vendors for less sketchiness, build came out to $3,288 assembled by my LBS

Mechanics first "Chinese" build at the bike shop, he was very impressed with the quality and noted that the internal cable routing gave him no problems. All of the workers at the bike shop where really interested in the build and none had ever heard of Winspace. This really shows how obscure this forum is, we are so far away from mainstream. He did ride it and was super impressed with it, I told them how my goal was to create an entry level roadbike, but have carbon wheels at the same price point.

8.1 kgs with everything, 17.85 lbs

Frame: Winspace T1550 ($1230 Black Friday)
Wheels: Winspace 2023 Hypers D45 ($1049 Black Friday)
Bar: Winspace Zero SL 380 W 105 L ($171 Black Friday)
Groupset: Shimano 105 R7120 Disc ($688 Merlincycles)
Tires: Conti GP 5000 ($130)
Tubes: Ride Now TPU 36g ($25)
Seat: Specialized Power Comp (Free: Old Bike)
Pedals: Shimano 105 SPD-SL (Free: Old Bikes)

Re: Winspace T1550 Build
Just out of curiosity what country?
I have a feeling that winspace and chinese brands in general haven't penetrated the non english speaking market as strongly.

Knoxville TN, United States. Most of the people who I have ran into riding here seem to be older. Less exposure to the corners of internet

Re: D-shaped Steerer Road Disc Fork
If it’s a thickness issue, I imagine a few spacers could solve that? Or maybe a different top cap?

Focus Izalco Race with Cube Attain fork.....(frame head tude and fork tube tapered 1 1/8"-1 1/4"

Frame with  Defy OD2 fork

Detail upper headset (FSA OD2)

Re: TPU vs Latex innertube Latex tubes roll the best and give the most compliant road feel in my experience. Vittoria latex tubes are also basically as cheap as Chinese TPU tubes. In Germany at least. (In fact, Cotton sidewall tubulars with latex inners to me are still the best feeling combo ever) However, TPU tubes are so close to latex tubes these days, that I choose them over anything else. Easy to handle. Reliable. Hold air forever. Easily packable so you can take two or three of them in your saddle bag easily. No brainer, really.
