Re: Another Seaboard GR02 Congrats, efficient and nice looking build. Curious how the EVA bar & kinesiology tape will hold up.
I have been considering something similar myself, not being a particular fan of the grip & feel of most EVA tapes.
Personally I would prefer a thinner solution - comparable to the SRAM Super Suede, but at Chinercost...

Re: Recommended chinese dropper seat post? I second PNW droppers. Had one on my FS for 3 years and 0 issues.

I've also heard good things about Trans-X droppers.

Re: Panniers, Bike Bags, Stuff sacks, and Saddle bags
I'm looking for pannier bags for my commuter. My laptop is fairly large (16" wide) so many of them are too small. Anyone have any recommendations for large pannier bags?

Not Ali, but I have the Thule Shield Pannier 25L since 8 months and I am happy with them. I put my backpack with a 16" laptop in there
Had the Ortlieb back roller classsic before that for about 15 years. Those are better, but very expensive.

Project "Purple Rain" Just want to share my latest Chinerbike project using a well known clone frame that was on offer during singles day sales in November and of course some other components off AliXpress.

I know clone frames are  frowned upon but I had a good experience so far, so here we go:
- Frameset including seat mast and carbon handlebar
- Ltwoo GR9 Hydraulic Gravel Brifters and Rear derailleur
- Zrace XG hydraulic calipers
- Elite SLR Gravel wheels 45x31mm
- Continental GP5000 STR 30mm with Ridenow TPU tubes
- ZTTO 11-46 ULT cassette
- 105 Crankset with Stone 46T chainring
- Mixed 5D Carbon saddle
- Wellgo SPD pedals
- Weight just below 8kg

I really like the frame geometry, so I decided to build a second bike with the same frame set and 1x11 gearing to be mainly used for indoor cycling on a Tacx trainer.
First I tried to combine the GR9 brifters with a Shimano GRX 812 Garbaruk modded derailleur but could not get it to shift properly, therefore reverted to the original GR9 derailleur which works reasonably well.
The frame interior looks clean by checking with an endoscope camera and the paint job is OK, but not perfect. The BB is a T47 which installed without any problems. The only thing I do not like on this frame are the plastic head spacer parts which require quite a lot of tension from the head cap to get all the play out in the fork bearings.
In case of questions, please let me know.   ;)

Re: Goldix 21-spoke 2:1 spoke ratio disc hubs I’m definitely a bigger guy and can put some power down. 80kg and 300w+ FTP when well-trained. I hear you on the fact that torque transmits through the whole hub. My reasoning is that the hub experiences significant twisting/deflection under pedal load (at least according to Peak Torque), so if the goal is to maximize efficiency, it would make the most sense to make the torque transmission to the rim depend on the shortest load path as much as possible, and that would be through the drive side spokes. Now all this is in my head and not real life which is why I’m asking on here.

Rear braking is a concern. Given that the disc side spokes are radial this means the bulk of the rear braking torque will be transmitted through the hub shell and up the drive side spokes. I think the main reason I don’t see it as problematic as the reverse case is that with pedaling I’m trying to maximize efficiency, something that doesn’t matter with braking. But I am concerned if something about this arrangement is exceptionally stressful for the rim.

Re: Carbonda Gravel Carbon frame CFR707 The stem will be short with rise, but less than on my 56cm 2016 GT Grade this will be replacing. current 46cm Salsa Cowbell bars will be replaced with something a little narrower (44-45cm) that ideally has rise, mild flare, and shallow drop but I’m having trouble finding an alloy bar that has all three. Might have to just try something like the Surly Truck Stop or Ritchey Corraltos, and keep experimenting if I’m not happy with the results.

I’ll be using a pair of MTB hubs (Hope Pro 4 rear and Industry Nine Torch front) rebuilt with DT Swiss GR531 rims, and probably try out the Schwalbe Thunder Burt 2.1 (50mm on those 24mm internal rims) as my first tires.

Other parts will mostly carry over from my old bike for now, but I do need better cable actuated brakes. The current TRP Spyres are not confidence inspiring. Was thinking about State Bicycle Co cable actuated hydraulics but am still looking around and need to refresh my memory on all the AliExpress type options like Onirii before deciding.

This will be my third Carbonda build, and it’s a big relief to finally be getting it started.

Re: L-Twoo, Sensah or 105?
My original post got cut short for some reason. Just wrote a pretty long reply which got cut short again. Very weird...
From what I can see 105 is £500 new. Honestly that's a bit more than I'd like to spend on it, but if I really have to I can.
L-Twoo have their R9 2x11 available for £136. This seems very cheap! There are some different configurations available with different brakes and chainsets which push the price up a bit.
Sensah SRX 1x11 is available for £215. From what I've read and seen this is quite a nice groupset too.
I really wouldn't mind spending a bit less on the groupset and having some spare cash for the wheelset!
Is there on particular China Group in particular that everyone agrees is the go to? better than the rest? I've read that 11spd is easier to work with and more reliable than 12spd so that's what I've been looking at.
Without knowing which exact seller you're looking at the price comparisons are a false economy, I assume you're in the UK?

For £500 you can get a full Shimano 105 Groupset including crankset, cassette, disc rotors and chain.

With Ltwoo and sensah you aren't getting those additional parts.

Like for like parts: Shifters, hoses, cables, calipers, rear derailleur, front derailleur.

105 R7020: £280 On AliX
Ltwoo R9: £135 On AliX
Sensah Empire: £190 On AliX

Yes, Shimano is much more expensive, but its not £500 when you consider like for like parts.

Re: Carbonda FM 1003 / Flybike FM 1266 180mm "Super Enduro" Hey guys,

So bit of an update with my frame.  Whilst the inner tube was an issue, i magically got it routed somehow.

After i got the cable routed, i was doing more maintenance (recovering from a broken collar bone) noticed a 5-6cm long crack just under the BB in the center round part.

Sent off an email with a few images,  Wing replied advising she'll send it off to their technical department.  Came back to me 1 week later saying they'll replace the front triangle under warranty  ;D ;D ;D ;D

VERY happy with service!  Definitely would buy again from them

This was just before the Xmas time.  Received the frame around 8-10 days later.

Re: Carbonda fork vibration Carbon plugs are always tricky in my experience. They have to be checked, tightened and even re-settled pretty often.

This (plus ease of trimming the steerer tube, higher stack height and 15mm axle compatibility) is a big part of why I’m trying a suspension fork on my initial 707 build rather than the OEM carbon fork. After carbon plug issues cropped up several times with my fat bike when it had a carbon fork I just like the peace of mind of a star nut system.

I also use FSA headsets instead of the Carbonda OEM ones because I’ve had some creaking and slight knocking/play develop in the one that came with my FM1002. Swapping out for an FSA no.55R-558 (no cable routing) solved that immediately. At some point if you’re still feeling shudder despite the plug being tight, you may want to consider that upgrade before looking at a different fork.
